Home Baked Birthday Gift

Some months are filled with birthdays of friends and family members.

This can get very expensive if one goes out  and buys gifts for all the birthday "kids."

Plus, this is trick-or-treat month and that means buying candies for the little goblins.

Who wants to begrudge kids that little bit of spooky happiness?  Not me.

Living on a limited budget helps a person get creative.

For one of several recent birthdays,  good ol' chocolate chip cookies came to the rescue.

I packed them in a  nice little tin, picked up for pennies at a yard  sale.

Then, a $10 gift card to a favorite coffee place completed the gift.

Not a major budget breaker, by any means, but, like this blog, it was a gift "from the heart."

Today we are joining Thrifty Things Friday on Diann's blog, The Thrifty Groove.

Her co-host  is Linda at A La Carte.  Thanks for hosting, girls!

Well just today I made a very nice pumpkin bread to bring to school to share with the other enrichment teachers..they loved it. I usually do not bake gifts though...unless I make a birthday cake for a family member!

I love to gift sweet loaves of bread. Cranberry Orange Nut Bread, Maple Apple Loaf, Grandma's Nut Bread, etc. I especially like taking them to shutins. They are easy, quick and - from the heart.
Love love this blog.

I much rather have a gift from the heart then a gift from the store.

I think it was wonderful.

So tell me the type of butter product and how much you use in your recipe - they look good.

Who can go wrong with wonderful chocolate chip cookies? I like to give loaves of quick bread (no yeast).

I have been making applesauce cookies using apples from my mother's old apple trees. I made them for my brother(who now lives in my mom's house) for his birthday and made another batch to bring to our friend's house last nite. Tomorrow we are going to NJ for an overnite to visit some friends and I will bring them some of the cookies also.

They are the essence of Autumn as they have applesauce, cinnamon, cloves and nuts and raisins. Perfect with a hot beverage on these chilly Autumn days.

YOur chocolate chip cookies looked marvelous. They are a classic.
