A "Tweet" Collection

Birds are among the most fascinating creatures on earth.

There are so many thousands of varieties, from the tiniest of humming birds to eagles with their sweeping wingspan. For whatever reason, I've always loved birds of all kinds.

Personal collections may have origins in childhood. Many different birds line windowsills in our home. As a little girl, I remember the excitement of finding pale blue eggs in a bird's nest in the back yard of my childhood home. They were so small and perfect. When the babies were born, my sisters and me were thrilled and tried to see them from our bedroom window.

One summer day, I found a small, featherless creature on the ground. A baby bird had fallen from the nest and died. We buried her and gave her a small grave marker. It may have been one of my first experiences with death and my heart ached for the dead baby bird who would never learn to fly!

(This little fellow is made out of a black cow horn! Looks like he's singing to the sun.)

(This is one of my Mexican, hand-painted birds.)

(Here's the hand painted Mexican ceramic bird's girlfriend.)

In spring, isn't it wonderful hear choruses of birds through the open bedroom window? Mourning doves sound rather melancholy but it's still pleasant to hear them.

(These might be blue birds of happiness so I hope they stick around!)

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE KIND OF BIRD?

  2. Well I watch the birds from my kitchen window - we have a feeder for them (probably why I got squirrels in the attic to begin with).

Why is it we all love watching birds so much? I guess it is the closest thing to seeing animals/birds up close any more.

I like the woodpeckers color and the male cardinal.

    Love,
    Sandie

So glad you love birds, too, Linda.

And Sandie, yes, cardinals are such a beautiful color! Scarlet! What color is a woodpecker?

  5. Lovely little birdie figurines. We have mostly pigeons around here. :/ Happy belated to your hubby. Your dinner sounds fabulous! And I definitely agree that we should be grateful for everything, each and every day -- even the squirrels who hold a convention in the yard. Ha! :) Many blessings, Tammy

  7. I had pet parakeets when I was a child. I taught them to say I was pretty. Then when they said it, I would flaunt it in my sister's face. Mean little thing, wasn't I? I cried and cried when they passed away.

  8. Cardinals are my favorite birds to see - no matter the season. I enjoy hearing the birds sing...One summer I became very attached to a family of robins that nested within view of my dining room window. I was even late to church the morning that the babies left the nest. I just didn't want anything to happen to them!

  9. Oh Rosie, that was a funny memory for you, wasn't it? Your sister must have wanted to smack you! Ha! Isn't it amazing what we do when we are kids? Thanks for the chuckle.

Hi Rebecca: Cardinals are very gorgeous. And I don't blame you for becoming attached to the robin family!

Thanks for visiting and commenting ladies! Come back soon! Sincerely, Susan
