A Simple Pleasure That Meows
My simple pleasure today fills my heart with pure love until it almost breaks.
It's our pet, Honey Cat. Yes, she's just a cat but she's been part of our lives for 15 years. She came to live with us when our children were quite young and they are both grown up now, and married.
In her childhood, our daughter lobbied for two solid years to have a cat join our household. At that time, I didn't want a cat but all the begging and pleading finally made me give in. Today, I cannot imagine our lives without Honey Cat.
I've posted about her before and told all the details of how she was born in the desert and now lives in the "Arctic Tundra" of New England. (All of the posts on Honey Cat can be found in this blog's archive on the sidebar.)
The veterinarian says Honey is a "very old" grandmother cat. If there are seven human years to every cat year, she's more than 100 years old! Imagine.
She's been sick in 2010 and is now on special renal diet cat food obtained from the veterinarian's office. The cost takes a big chunk out of our already stringent budget but that's okay. Honey needs to eat well. She goes through so much kitty litter now that I'd like to have shares in the company.
To me, Honey is as pretty as a picture. She's also so special because she is such a reminder of our children's childhood.
Honey Cat is a simple pleasure every single moment of my life. I don't know how much longer we will have her but, in the meantime, I will cherish each day she prances through our house like the Queen of Sheba.
Honey Cat is a super duper simple pleasure.

Awww, Susan ... this is such a heartwarming post. What a special kitty cat. I agree with Karen. Our pets add such joy to our lives. I pray Honey Cat has a few more great years with you. She's beautiful.
Honey Cat is a sweetie! As I am typing, Jingles is in her litter box making quite a raucous. Wonder what she is up to???? Happy day to you. Tammy
Your cat is beautiful, as is her name. It suits her perfectly. Cats do bring much joy to our lives.
Your kitty is so special.
Honey is quite the beautiful kitty. Our Angela is about as old as your Honey and we're doing the diet and constant litter box thingy, too. But they sure are worth the love...
I love you Honey Cat! I know my Charlie is very special to me! He is only 11 so not too many health problems yet. They are worth it, you are right.
Honey is gorgeous! I have always had cats in my life and I just love them I don't know what Id do without them! I only have one right now, but Id love to get like 15 more if the hubby wouldn't kill me.. I really want one more though but I can't go to a shelter and pick out just ONE. it's so hard for me.
My grandma's cat lived to be 22 and he was an indoor/outdoor cat! While I know that isn't super common, I hope that you and your family have many more years with Honey cat! :)
Susan,
I agree! Our cats are treasures that provide us with daily joy! They are truly blessings.
She's a beauty, and they easily steal your heart! Enjoy her, she looks like a love!

I had a number of cats during my children's lives. Now I have no pets..but my adult children continue the tradition. My daughter has a cat she worships and my son has two named after movies he's worked on so cats still play a part in our lives. My cat lived 18 years until she passed away. Cats really do have nine lives..ha! Hi Honey Cat...keep on bringing job to all!
Cheers to Honey cat! I have a cat who 16 years old. She has been part of the family since our children were very small. I totally understand.
Happy New Year to you!
Velva
Animals are our children too aren't they? Hope she starts to do better - feel better!

she is really beautiful. Enjoy each day with her for as long as you have her. And wishing you a very happy new year.
She is a beauty, and I think "honey cat" fits her perfectly! I can understand the simple pleasure of a favorite cat to snuggle.
