Majestic Fountain in Albany, New York's, Washington Park

The King Memorial Fountain, also known as The Rufus H. King Fountain and The Moses Fountain, is a highlight of Washington Park in Albany, New York.

Erected by J. Massey Rhind in 1893, a huge bronze figure depicting Moses stands on a pile of rocks.  His arms are raised up in the air and there is a stick in one of them.

Rhind was one of four sculptors who fashioned models of the fountain and his was selected and commissioned.

It's actually a memorial fountain in memory of Rufus H. King who was in the banking and insurance industries in Albany. His son, Col. Henry L. King left $10,000 in his will for construction of the fountain. A few years after construction began, the cost increased to $30,000, according to reports written on the fountain.

Surrounding the huge Moses figures are four bronze figures that depict Childhood, Youth, Manhood, and Age.

Water trickles down into a pool surrounding  the base of the fountain. It is quite impressive and is certainly a fountain to remember.

Here is another photo taken inside this beautiful city park, as people stroll along sidewalks lining water.

Interesting, and a beautiful park. I love parks. We have so many here. My friends from Boston couldn't believe it.

This statue is really impressive, Susan! I would love to see it in person. Locally, we have several parks - Lakeside Park features roses with a beautiful fountain and huge white pillars. Foster Park, spring bulbs. They are two of my local, large favorites.

No favorites on my side, but then again, I barely go to them with my working schedule. Pity, right?! Someday, and by then, I guess, I'll find a favorite one. I can tell you already, it will be a quite one, with very few people :o)

have a lovely day!

My Susan,

How you do get around!

This is beautiful.

My favorite park is any park in which it is 75 degrees out and I can smell the charlbroil hotdogs on the grill reminding me of the 4th of July celebrations when I was little.

*hugs*

Wow! What a cool fountain. Thanks for sharing. I agree with you...snow caves are claustrophobic, but my son had a blast sleeping the whole night in below degree weather.

That was a gorgeous park. I have to say - we don't have a lot of parks like that down here.
