Have you seen the movie "The Shining," based on the novel by Stephen King?
If you missed it and want to be scared out of your ever loving wits, then go rent it.
King got the idea for the thriller one day while staying at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. The Stanley is a magnificent sprawling white structure built in the early 1900s by F.O. Stanley.
It's nestled in the hills and can be seen in the distance as one drives into the town.
The hotel is purported to have rooms that, to this day, are haunted by spirits.
One can even take a Ghost Hunt Tour for 50 bucks a crack. The long, open hallways, sweeping staircase, and mountain setting of the Stanley Hotel all appeal to guests.
We stopped in while visiting Estes Park, Colorado, a charming touristy town with tons of shops.
I took today's photos in the lobby of the hotel which is beautifully decorated for Christmas. I snapped them during the day. By nightfall, we were long gone.
P.S. The hotel's website is http://www.standleyhotel,com/

I've read the book. I've seen the old version and the new version of the movie. My BIL was an extra in the re-make. He was with the waltz people that turned into what looked like the walking dead. It wasn't too long after that, that he had a breakdown and was hospitalized. Scary right?
ReplyDeleteThat was the scariest movie, ever. I have been to this hotel too, and I was very impressed. I can imgaine how pretty it was with all the decorations.
ReplyDeleteI do not frequent scary movies at all. I'd love to visit this hotel though. I stayed overnight on the Queen Mary which is also supposed to be haunted but I saw nor heard any "spirits".
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful place...but the outside shot reminds me a place one would see on the eastern coast, not Colorado. Maybe that is what King saw too...since he is from Bar Harbor.
ReplyDeleteRed Rum Red Rum - Love it. This place looks fab!!!
ReplyDeleteLeann
I have not seen or read the Shining - now will I - I do not do scary!!!
ReplyDeleteHowever this Inn looked really cool - $50 bucks to tour?
Think I would look from a far though.
