Wisdom by the Moment

Around here you will find piles of books on almost every surface.

No table is left behind!

Books, to me, are to be savored and ingested page by page.

If I'm sitting near a pile of books, I like to scan through them and pick up bits of wisdom and knowlege from each.

In this post, we are going to go through a few books in just one housebound pile.

The one at the top of this post includes tidbits of wisdom from people who have lived to be almost 100 years old.

Gotta learn something from them, right?

Who cannot use a happiness booster?  Some days, this is the first book I'll reach for.

Then there's a book that gives more than 500 ways to stay upbeat during downbeat times. Can't lose with this one, either!

Melodie Beattie's books are always inspirational and the one below is no exception.

Last but not least is a little number written by Charles Swindoll. It, too, has some good advice for readers.

So there you have it!  A mini pile of books with maximum wisdom for the reader!

DO YOU ENJOY BOOK 'SMORGASBORDS?'

I love your line "no table left behind"! The same is true at our house....Our house is FULL and running over with books.

I have always loved books! Growing up in a rural setting, there was little to do except play with the pets or read, so that became a normal activity at our house. As I got older, I would ride the bus into town, where I would go to the library and read encyclopedias, not really looking for anything in particular, just reading and enjoying the knowledge that was on those pages! These days, I spend far too much time on the computer, but still have books lying around all over the place, which are a source of great joy. It is dangerous for me to enter a book store!

I certainly don't want to live to be 100. My grandfather did though and he almost made it. He was 99 and 4 months olds when he died.

I love books and reading. I mostly read fiction but do enjoy some inspirational books now and then. I have piles everywhere and just hope I live long enough to read them all :)

Oh, yes! I LOVE books!! The first book I open each day is the Bible, into which is tucked the current Upper Room, so that takes care of two for the day. Nouwen's "Bread for the Journey" is also a good one. I'm currently reading "The Death of Josseline," a non-fiction collection of immigration stories.

Happy Monday, and welcome to October!

I love to read so much and can't read fast enough. I read about three books at a time. I guess I think I go faster if I read this way!

I'm an avid reader as well.

I recall a robot in a movie that moved through a bookstore at lightning speed. He read everything in a few minutes. Okay, I don't read THAT fast, but I could give him a run for his money. :)

Oh yes...I love books. I had to downsize when I moved but I find myself bringing more into the apartment...I guess I will just have to downsize once again someday.

Those look like great books. I love anything with an uplifting, positive message. I remember seeing a woman on Johnny Carson who was 100 years old. He asked her what was the worst invention in her life time, she said the credit card -- because she and her husband always paid cash for everything, and if they couldn't afford something, they didn't buy it. She said that the microwave was the best invention because it helped with heating up dinner. :) Enjoy the books. Best wishes, Tammy
