It must have taken hundreds of hours to build the walls and they often stretched over long distances.
However, materials were free and there may have been plenty of time without t.v., computers, iPads and other modern distractions.
The stone walls seen in this post are at the top of Mt. Greylock in Western Massachusetts.
They are nice to look at as well as sit on!

I do not have stone walls on my property but when I was in Ireland all the farms and many many homes were surrounded by a stone gate or wall. It was just awesome to look at them.
Beautiful!! No, but we sure have enough in our fields that we could!!
I always associate rock walls with Robert Frost! Kansas has some limestone fences but they are quite different from New England's rock walls.
We do have a little stone wall - believe it or not. I will have to take a picture for you! sandie
Beautiful stone walls :) We have a stone wall around this apartment complex mainly to shut out some of the traffic noise, and inside is a beautiful garden.
I love the natural stone walls. Now everybody has those decorative block walls surrounding their bushes and fronts of homes.
I love those old stone walls. We do have stone wall, but it is nothing like these.
Not here but in the older parts of town you can see some.
No stone walls over here! I love them, but materials are definitely not free! We are right now having our front path and driveway re-done. I would have loved cobblestone, but it wasn't in the budget!
