Somewhere, I read that putting a piece of copper piping inside a bird bath would help keep the water clean.
It sounded a little weird but that didn't deter me from giving it a shot.
Hubs has everything imaginable in his storage room and, when a piece of copper piping was requested, he produced it.
I put it into the bird bath and voila! It really does help
There is no longer any green scum of any kind inside the birdbath.
Now the little feathered friends have sparkling clean water ! How cool is that?
The three layers of the fountain got some copper piping pieces, too!
DO YOU SEE BIRDS AT A BACKYARD BIRDBATH?

I don't have a bird bath but I do see a lot of birds in my backyard. Good idea with the copper piping...
What a super idea! No, we have no birdbath here. We seem to have a lot of crows in our yard this season, though.
Your first photo is absolutely spectacular. You should enter the group of Weekend Reflections because that is perfect for it.
What a great tip for keeping the water clean in a birdbath!!
Who knew??? My birdbath was so scummy and attracting wasps that I,got disgusted and turned it into a planter. Drilled holes in the bottom for drainage and filled it with succulents. Now that I've learned your copper trick, I regret having done that. Both of your water features are just lovely! Doesn't water add so much to a garden?
Hello from Spain: I like your pics. Good idea with the copper piping. Keep in touch
I'm going to find something to put in my birdbath - what a wonderful idea! Jane - the transformation to these chairs is marvelous - such a wonderful, easy change! Love the new fabric and the table is fantastic! I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,

I had a birth bath once but didn't know about placing a piece of copper in it - wish I knew then what I know now. sandie
I have 4 birdbaths well two are on the ground and the cats drink out of them, I do change the water pretty often but will try the copper idea for the two off the ground as they often get green slime in them.

I love our bird bath and bird feeder in our back yard. I am happy to say that our backyard is the busiest in the neighborhood. Birds coming, going. I absolutely love it!! Thanks for the copper idea :)
