Memories, Memories

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, I had a parrot.

His name was Perkunas, after a Lithuanian thunder god!

(My father was Lithuanian, too.)

I lived outside of the USA at that time and was unable to bring my beloved pet back with me when it was time to move back to the States.

When I saw these parrots in a gift shop at the Museum of Science and Nature in Denver, Colorado,  Perkunas came to mind, (even though he was green rather than red.)

These red parrots were so darned cute but I resisted and didn't buy one.

Enjoyed the memories of Perkunas that they evoked, though.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A PARROT?

I've had parakeets in my life but never a parrot. They live a very long time and I know a teacher friend who has one and has brought it to school to show the children how well it converses...The kids LOVED it.

Hello Susan
I have had a Parakeet and she lived over ten years... I still think of her often too.
Have a great week.

I had never owned birds until my SIL gave us two parakeets but we didn't keep them long -- they were either escaping or making a mess with the birdseed so that was the end of our bird days. I'd rather watch them in the wild. :) Have a great day. Tammy

No, but my aunt had a bird who could whistle All Around the Mulberry Bush, and my friend had a bird who copied her husband's voice. You'd swear he was speaking but it was their parakeet.

They are so clever and colorful.

My friend has one and he is in her rec room. Being Italian she has a kitchen and all so her bird is talking all the time while she is cooking. Great friend she says.
These are cute.

Good morning my friend! I didn't know you had a parrot and I didn't know you were Lithuanian? Do you know that my Jimmy is 1/2 Lithuanian and 1/2 Italian? My friend has large birds and I have to tell you, they do frighten me.
Love ya,
Linda

No parrot, but when I was a child parakets were in. Mom and her mother each had one...Pretty Boy and Blue Boy.

Never did have a parrot and didn't know you had one either! They seem so exotic.

My youngest sister had a parakeet for a while when we were kids. It was her birthday and when my father asked her what she wanted for a gift she said, "a parakeet". So we all piled into the station wagon and drove to the Big N to buy a cage with a little perch and bird food and a parakeet. I don't remember the birds name,, but he/she didn't live very long and we never had another parakeet. The end.
