That's how we feel about Lakeview Orchard in the Western Massachusetts countryside.
We wait all winter for the announcement of its re-opening.
The thought of it helps us get through all the winter's ice and snow storms.
When the re-opening is announced, it's cause for celebration.
They have a huge round of the most fabulous Vermont Cabot cheddar cheese you ever want to have melt on your tongue.
That cheese, in itself, is worth the trip to Lakeview Orchards.
Anyway, once October 31st rolls around, it's cause for frowns as the place closes for the winter.
Such was the case on Halloween. Gone was the cheese.
The round wooden container it came in was bare. Nary a nibble was left.
There were warm cider donuts, though, just being placed on a rack to be lightly dusted with sugar and set into plastic containers.
Some fall season fruit was still available, too, and some frozen Polish pierogies.
Customers waited patiently for the donuts. One lady left with a big bag of them (and it wasn't me.)
Slightly crunchy on the outside and fluffy yumminess on the inside, they would be enough to make diehard dieters run fast.
So there you have it----the sweet close to Lakeview Orchard for 2015. Bye bye.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE PLACE YOU LOVE TO GO TO? CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT IT AND MENTION WHAT YOU LOVE TO BUY THERE?

I am always sad to see the fresh produce go at the farmer's market. We do have one that stays open year round, but I miss the summer produce. xo Laura
I think of it as resting and hibernating for the winter - so that it can come back next year.
I'm naturally a great lover of a good aged Cheddar cheeese. Love those towels and the sign. They're so cheery and fun. There's a little Amish store in southern Wisconsin that we just discovered in September of this year. We'll make that trek again. It was a great place to visit and purchase a few much-needed (?) items.

Looks like a delicious and wonderful place!
My mom used to make Polish Pierogies for my dad, as his mother was part Polish. The warm cider doughnuts look so yummy, Susan. I still have to go to Apple Hill this Fall.......it has everything APPLE you can think of.
