Once a person retires from full time work and begins to downsize, books are often on the "get rid of" list.
Around here, that is clearly not the case at all.
Books are like friends-----precious, special, and treasures. That's not to say hundreds of my books have not been given away because they have been released.
When I moved from a house to an apartment, a huge library had to be weeded out.
But many other boxes of books never made the cut and have been in storage for three years.
As each box comes out of storage and is opened, (in a desperate attempt to get rid of the storage unit,) my heart jumps a few beats.
The reunification with books I love has been sweet.
One major problem remains. Where, oh where, will the incoming books be stored in this small apartment?
I need just one more tall, skinny, white bookcase so the incoming books can be rescued and remain rather than be packed in bags and donated.
Friends are treasured, right? Well, books are among my dearest friends, probably always will be, so books need to keep me company while I still have breath.
DO YOU PREFER A PLACE WITH NO OR FEW BOOKS OR MANY?

Now that I have my kindle I’ve donated most of my books in my library and the space now holds photo albums. I hope you find a new bookcase soon.
I used to have a big bookshelf with many books at our old house, but with the moves, I gave many of my books away. I only have a few left, and they are my favorites. But I did give a box to my in-laws to enjoy, so if I ever need them back, they will be there. Books are hard to part with, and you are like Jess and Nel, who have many bookshelves in their home filled with books. I can see why you don't want to part with them. While everything is on the internet now, there's nothing like holding, smelling, and reading an old book, especially the hard cover ones. I wish you well on this project, Susan. Yes, they are like friends to us.

I actually have two tall bookcases and both have doors on them. I keep all our books in these bookcases. There are several in there that I have as of yet to read, but I know I will get around to it someday. With all the phones, kindles, computers now days, I think we fail to see how important books are.
I need books in my life. We do enough online these days. Certainly don't want to be reading online, too. I've gotten rid of many that I knew that I would never read and now am slowly going through what I have and either deciding to read or let go. There are a lot books that are definitely keepers though. I hope you get to the point of having what you need around you and finally being able to let go of the storage unit. I'd really like to not have anything stored away that I don't reach for at least sometimes -- it's a process. Take care.
