A Culinary Memory

Some foods we ate as children remain life-long favorites.

My late father used to make potato pancakes that our whole family loved.

In my mind's eye, I can still see him peeling potatoes in the kitchen.

The pancakes are very time-consuming to make.

After he'd run each potato numerous times along a grater, he mixed in eggs, a little flour, and salt and pepper.

As soon as the pancakes were dropped into hot grease and turned, he'd put them on a platter.

Within a second, they'd disappear. He couldn't make them fast enough.

The past few days I have been laid low by a bad head cold and respiratory difficulties.

One of my sisters said she was coming over with supper, since most of my time was being spent beneath a blanket.

One part of the kindly delivered meal was potato pancakes.

It made me think, right away, of my father, who has been gone from this earth for 36 years.

They tasted quite yummy but the memories they stirred up were more precious.

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD FOODS?

Cherish Each Moment

The sweet days of October are flitting by at record speed.

We are almost half way through the month already.

This is a very favorite season.

The cooler temps, the gorgeous trees in autumn colors, pumpkins, and apples, and gourds----all of these are part of this precious fall season.

Even though the days are passing quickly, it's important to enjoy each one while it's here.

So often we rush through our days and the seasons, as well.

Taking time to look at the beauty around us helps us realize how blessed we are to be alive.

Even though some of the leaves have already fallen, many more are still on the trees, arrayed in brilliant orange, yellow, and red.

Soft, burnt orange pillows are plumped in each corner of the couch and a leaf-covered cloth covers a table.

Beautiful faux flowers in brilliant colors deck the small dining table.

Everything looks festive!

This is a glorious time of year.

Taking time to just stop and breathe is a gift.

Being thankful for all this month brings fills our hearts with deep peace.

Today, I am wishing you a calm and gentle Sunday.

Happy Friday!

Hello Everyone!

A good rule of thumb for me, when purchasing any household decoration, is if it makes me smile, or laugh out loud, it's a keeper.

Most of my holiday decorations have been around for many years. Some have even survived decades of use.

The one shown today at the top of this post is one of my faves.

No doubt about it, I love decorating, even this tiny space.

In the past, we had a big house and I adored putting decorations for holidays in every room.

Even in the fairly new digs, things look festive and colorful.

That some decorations make someone smile is an extra bonus.

This morning I found a plastic bin that stores fall and Halloween decor.

A big red "ruby" had fallen off of my favorite Halloween mask but alas, it was found on the bottom on the plastic tote. Hurray!  It got a quick glue job.

Enjoy your day today.

I just wanted to pop in and say "hello" and let you know you are in my thoughts.

In the Heart of Autumn

Blog break is over.

Thanks for hanging in there until posts returned!

While vacations offer welcome breaks from routines, seeing new places, and enjoying each precious moment, it's always great to get back home (and one's own bed.)

Plus, you have been very, very missed!

So here's today's post:

The air this morning brought a few chills down the spine.

Loving refreshing temps, I opened the bedroom window today but, in a very short time, closed it.

The chilly air turned out to be just a bit too cold for open window enjoyment.

There is also a frost warning for tonight!  Oh boy.

We are in the heart of autumn for sure.

Returning from vacation with friends, the bare shelved refrigerator needed refurbishing.

The stunning bouquet of flowers at the top of this post awaited shoppers in a local supermarket.

It was impossible to refrain from sticking my hand into my purse and retrieving my cell phone in order to take a photo to share with you.

So as some people shopped for broccoli and squash, pumpkins and apple butter, I snapped a photo of the utterly breathtaking floral bouquet.

Upon my return from vacation, my daughter brought supper over to me the first night and some homemade blueberry muffins for the next day's breakfast.

Sitting at the little dining room table in my very small apartment today, I couldn't help but burst out laughing.

Take a good look at the blueberry muffin inside the plastic container.

Do you see a face in it?

I did and it looked like mine as I unpack suitcases and try to find a space for everything.

It's "berry important to laugh, right?
