Last Sunday Before Thanksgiving

Here we are on the last Sunday before Thanksgiving Day.

Probably our lists are made of what needs to be done and purchased in preparation for the big feast.

I always try to get to the supermarket before Wednesday to avoid long lines and a frenzied atmosphere.

Also, unlike many very traditional people, who wait until after Thanksgiving to start, Christmas decorating has already begun  in earnest in this small apartment.

As I pull out old decorations, it sparks memories of the past.

The hand-knitted green lap blanket, shown behind the pillow in this post, is very old. I fell in love with it while we were living in Arizona and it has been with me ever since.

So many decorations have already been given away to friends, family, or charity shops but way too many still remain.

Some, I will never give up as they have become part of me.

The poinsettia cross stitch pillow, shown in this post, is a fave but probably not a "forever" pillow.

In any event, on this day, I wish each of you deep peace and calm, happiness and fulfillment.

  1. I'm with you, sister, on decorating early for Christmas. I am having so much fun doing it, and the house feels so festive and cozy for Thanksgiving. Your poinsettia pillow and knitted blanket are very nice. And such talent and precious time that goes along with them with the knitting and cross stich. I smiled when I read what you said, "Some, I will never give up as they have become part of me." Isn't that the truth.....so many treasures from long ago that have become a part of us. How can we ever part with them? : )

  4. I'm a traditionalist. I wait patiently to decorate my cozy little house until after Thanksgiving. I remember as a child, asking my mom, "when?" Then when it was time, it was the best! To each his own! I do have all my gift shopping done. So I can fully enjoy the season without retail distractions.
    Very pretty pillow.

  5. Love that you embrace the decorating. We do that here to. Right after Halloween our two little trees and the lights went up. If I'm there putting away Halloween, it's just so easy to break out the Christmas. I love this time of year!
