Side Porch Makeover for Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch

The side porch of our Colonial home looked barer than a bone when we moved in.

A dark brown ceiling got a total makeover with white paint.  The equally dark floor is now painted a light gray. Those paint jobs lightened things up considerably.

Luckily, at a thrift store, I came in a the right moment. A Victorian-looking settee, chair, and table from a woman's estate had just arrived. All they needed was a coat of white paint so I bought the trio on the spot. It cost less than $100 for all of the pieces.  They got a new coat of white spray paint and look great.

At a yard sale, I found a child's rocking chair that would be perfect for a little guest. For $5, it was a steal.

Throughout the years, I have picked up pretty accent pillows at yard and estate sales, too,  primarily in pinks and creamy whites with lace, and this spring added them to the chairs on the porch.

Also his year, I bought a sheer pink curtain panel for a little more privacy. My husband hung it between two glass panels. I also purchased a  colorful rug from India at the Christmas Tree Shops for less than $10. It adds a very cheery touch. (Eventually, we want to install windows with screens all around the porch . That would make the porch usable many more months of the year. Ahhhhhh, so nice to dream.)

Red impatiens hang from one part of the porch. A  lovely, blooming  hibiscus and potted yellow rose bush have also been added.

A happy-faced frog on a swing adds a humorous touch to one corner of the porch. He never fails to make me smile when I see him.  Nearby, silk greenery mixes with living plants.

The side porch has undergone quite a metamorphosis, don't you think?

  19. With that new paint job on the ceiling and floor, it’s evident that you were aiming for a bright room where you can just relax. I love how you used those Victorian chairs and pillows because they create a mood where you can just drink tea and eat cookies. Brilliant choice of décor!
