For Dayle's Simple Pleasures: Birds

Birds are tiny creatures that bring an abundance of wonder to the world.

They are definitely among life's most treasured yet simple pleasures.

Seeing birds soar through the air, without a care in the world, makes us realize that God is truly in charge. He watches over the littlest of His creatures with tender, loving care.

It's comforting to hear choruses of birds early on summer mornings.

Because I love  living birds, a bird collection evolved at our house. They line windowsills in one room and are perched on a mirrored tray in another.

One humorous bird story recalled while writing this post takes me all the way back to the first grade. Now, believe it or not, that was a long time ago!

The first grade teacher, Mrs. Bonneville, liked to try to fool her charges on April Fool's Day.  She had gotten most of the students in the class on little things, like saying their shoe laces were untied or their pencils were on the floor. However, she wasn't able to fool me until she walked over to the window and exclaimed, "Oh, my, there's the first robin of spring."

I jumped out of my seat and ran to the window, not wanting to miss a glance of robin redbreast. Of course, Mrs. Bonneville chuckled when she saw me craning my neck at the window, trying to get a glance of the robin.

"April Fool, Susan," she laughed. She got me. That was bad enough but even worse was the fact that I didn't get to see a little robin after all!

  7. I've always loved gold finches the best! They're so tiny and vibrant...but I think they're kind of feisty too! Despite not being a huge animal-lover, I do have a special place in my heart for birds. I remember looking forward to trips to my grandmother's house in the summertime because she was surrounded by feeders. I'm certain my appreciation for them came from her!

  8. Goodness, this is ANOTHER great simple pleasures week. I've seen a foot bridge, a mother reading to a child, and NOW I have a fellow bird lover. I just love sitting on the deck or by the window and watching the birds.

    It's a favorite thing.

I love your story. Even though you didn't see the robin, you did learn that your teacher loved you enough to notice what you loved.

    That's another simple pleasure, yes?

  11. I've never really thought of a bird as a simple pleasure, but I can assure you I will be looking at them differently from now on.

I have several birds I love to watch. I love the cardinal because I love the color. So pretty, and he hummingbirds, I could watch them for hours, those little wings fluttering.

Hope you have a blessed day.
    Hugs,
    Cindy
