Fresh Flowers in the Heart of Winter

Roz, from the blog "la bella vita,"  hosts "Fresh, Clean, and Pure Friday" and this week, Writing Straight from the Heart is joining.

Fresh flowers are the theme for today.

Flowers are welcome and heartwarming any time but they are especially magnificent in the heart of winter.

The other day, as the frigid air outside kept everything frozen and still, someone rang the doorbell. I had just arrived home.  It was a neighbor holding something covered with a plastic bag. Underneath were these extremely charming and perky flowers.

Dark and light pink carnations; a sassy, yellow sunflower; deep purple stems; pastel lavender daisies; baby's breath; black eyed Susans; and more flowers all combined to make a startlingly attractive bouquet.

Dear friends sent the flowers in memory of my aunt, who died last week. As it turns out, she loved flowers and in the day, grew a large variety that she turned into table top bouquets. Oh, how I will miss this dear soul, until we meet again some day in the other realm of life.

So this is a post dedicated to fresh flowers to light up your soul!  To make you smile!  And to keep you warm in the heart of winter.

WHAT WERE THE LAST FRESH FLOWERS YOU BOUGHT FOR YOURSELF?

OR, BETTER YET, WHAT FRESH FLOWERS DO YOU PLAN TO BUY SOON?

  4. I am reminded of the crocuses that will poke out of the ground in a few weeks and the tulips that will nod in the breeze, and the summer flowers that make me smile. Thanks for this little pleasure and snow diversion.

  7. Susan, what a lovely post. Your friends are just dears for sending you those flowers in loving kindness of the Aunt you lost. Such a lovely arrangement. I sent my husband an email at work straight away and told him we do so need fresh flowers in the house. It's too dreary these days. I can't wait to see what happens! :-)

    Hugs and blessings,
    Susan @ CluckleBees

  8. What a beautiful bouquet and a thoughtful gesture. I would like to decorate glass jars and then fill them with flowers to give to the front office staff at school. That is on my list of things I'd like to do, but just haven't gotten to yet. Hope you are having a warm and cozy day. I'm off to bed. Goodnite! Tammy

  9. Oh gosh I never buy myself fresh flowers but always get them after a concert from my principals...so nice to decorate my living room. Aunt Gert LOVED flowers and had many growing in her yard...loved nature in general. So nice of your friend to send you this lovely bunch!

  11. Susan, I'm so sorry that you lost your aunt recently. How wonderful that your friends sent flowers in her memory, and that they, in turn, reminded you of how your aunt loved flowers so.

I am so ready for spring and flowers in my yard. After reading your post I think I'll need to pick up a bouquet for the house the next time I'm at the grocery store. Maybe it will get me through the next storm, due Friday!... Donna
