Thursday's Post: Simple Pleasure: Tears
My simple pleasure today is tinged with sadness. It is "tears."
Like most Americans, my thoughts have been constantly immersed in the tragedy that occurred recently in Tucson, Arizona. A madman senselessly gunned down innocent people, killing six, including a darling 9-year-old girl, and wounding others. U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is fighting for her life, having survived a bullet in the head.
Tears have been falling freely this entire week, my own included.
As I watched the memorial service taking place on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson, once again, it was impossible to watch and listen without weeping. It was so cathartic to release tears in the midst of this unbearable sorrow.
As President Barack Obama eloquently spoke, I kept wiping tears from my eyes. His impassioned speech to all Americans consoled and carried a message of hope despite the sadness of the situation at hand.
Tears are a simple pleasure because they help us to release our feelings. In good times, as well as bad, tears are welcome.

So true, Susan. In His infinite wisdom, God gave us tears for a reason. Whether happy tears or sad tears, there is a clear moment of release whenever they come.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
I have cried over this too. I agree, the president's speech was moving and positive. Hugs
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, I cried also, his words were riveting. Thank you for making us stop and think about all the lives that were disrupted because of this senseless tragedy.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you and tears can be so cleansing sometime.
ReplyDeleteYes, tears are a simple pleasure, for I know some who take medication which causes them to never be able to cry, so they don't know what it like to cry and wipe away a tear. I heard a quote that goes like this. "tears are the healing balm for the eyes"

ReplyDeleteA beautiful post, Susan.... Donna
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, I haven't turned the tv on today so didn't see the service or hear any news. No doubt it was quite moving and I would have shed many tears as I often do. Crying is certainly a good way to cleanse the soul. We all need that ever once in a while. Sending smiles and hugs your way, Tammy
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI think what you need to do is copy the picture and save it, go to the blog and put it in the same way you would do your blog pictures. I'm not 100% sure that will work as I have problems myself with this. Thanks for stopping by let me know if that works for you. Have a wonderful day.

Oh many a tear has flown freely from my eyes, dear Susan....I don't think a woman on this planet can say otherwise! I do know some who choose to stifle tears, viewing them as a sign of weakness, but I know otherwise! It really is a sweet release to be able to cry, and it can be very therapeutic to just let it all out...all the tension, the emotion, everything!
ReplyDeleteI am always crying, when I am overjoyed, sad, afraid, worried, happy, touched, even yes, when watching the news I am so easily affected sometimes it is just too painful to watch!
thanks for sharing!
for today, thus far, there are no tears! I'm happily redoing my blog! a tweek here and a tweek there! thanks for your visit and comment! I do hope your day is full of cheer!

To shed a tear, to show compassion, to understand someone else's pain...are a gift from Our Lord.

Tear heal -- or at least they move us closer to healing, I think. A lovely post.
ReplyDeleteThere is not a day goes by that I do not shed a tear! Mostly for the pain in others I cannot heal!! But that is my gift from God!
ReplyDeleteThat's one of my favorite scriptures. On the news tonight, they said the young man showed erratic behavior for quite some time.
ReplyDeleteMany innocent people lost their lives and were injured because of this person. I found it sad that some people tried to take advantage of the situation by politicizing it. This is a time for drawing together and comforting these families, much like during 9/11.
Wonderful ........Thanks for sharing
