Art, Restaurants, and More

Seeing new places or revisiting towns not seen for decades gives a person a new perspective.

Everyone needs a change of scene once in awhile.

During a day trip to the New England village of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, we encountered a great artists cooperative, the Shelburne Arts Co-op, saw the location of a walking bridge that is covered with flowers in spring,  looked over at the majestic Salmon Falls, and had a delightful lunch at McCusker's Market.

This is a very unique place to visit. Even a fire hydrant catches one's attention, painted in several colors, including fire engine red!

This quaint little New England village is known for its Bridge of Flowers. However, that attraction is not quite ready for tourists. It's adjacent to this bridge which leads to a street lined with shops:

In the  arts co-op, one can find an amazing array of work by more than 70 area artists. Picturesque note cards of area towns, farmsteads, and pastures; colorful scarves and shawls; gorgeous glass pieces; jewelry; photography, pottery, weaving, paintings; and more are all on display. It's an eye-popping scene, filled with every imaginable kind of artistic creation.

At McCusker's Market,  a Franklin Community Cooperative, located in a very old, historic building, I had lazy man's stuffed cabbage for lunch----a hamburger dish with pieces of cabbage in a tasty tomato sauce.

It came with a side of salad. I also picked up a small bag of chips instead of bread, mainly because I liked the name:

WHAT WAS THE LAST FUN DAY TRIP YOU TOOK?

  3. I sure wish this quaint town was closer to me! At $4.29/gallon, it would be an expensive trip from Indiana!

I thought of my day yesterday as a "Stay-Cation". Spent time in the yard. Yes, it was work, but it was a change of pace. And this morning we took our cups of coffee and enjoyed the view in morning's light. (NOT sunlight, exactly. Not sure it's going to show itself today.)

  4. Beautiful blue glassware!

I haven't taken a day trip in ages. I'd like to go see Joseph at Sight & Sound Theater.

  5. I haven't had a day trip in years!...no wait! I went to the beach a month ago, so there!, that's the best day trip ever! I plan to go east to the Capital City, to Esquipulas, a little town close to the border with Honduras. Hopefully in a couple of weeks. Shall be fun!
Thanks for sharing yours!, looks like you had a ton of fun!

  7. Loved reading about your trip and we are a great fan of day trips. My husband in fact, used to plan all sorts of romantic day trips for us but he hasn't done that in a while because the opportunities haven't been available like they were when we didn't have teenagers around every weekend. Our last fun trip - was the road trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama over Spring Break. It was a 12 hour drive - all of our family vacations involve road trips, because even with the gas prices, it's still WAY cheaper than flying a family someplace.

  8. ... also I forgot to note that husband takes "day trips" 3 days a week. His commute to the office is 160 miles each way. So... another reason why we don't do the day trips as often as we used to. :)

  9. Oh, how fun! I enjoyed the armchair tour. And the fabric arts are my favorites of all --- but the glassware is pretty too.

My last day trip? I think it was a drive along the river with my husband --- and a picnic at a park 60 miles down the road.

  10. I love all this eye candy - what a great trip - I wonder if we have a co-op like this? We have something called the Scott's Antique Market...

My last day trip was to the Decatur Square!

    Love,

  11. That does look like a great place to visit. Our last great trip was to Sri Lanka. Total fun! One hour or a little more in any direction in Kuwait and you are out of the country so not much to see around here. :/ I'm off to bed. Goodnite! Tammy
