Church Thrift Shop Yields a "Heavenly" Treasure

Today, we are joining Diann at The Thrifty Groove for "Thrifty Things Friday." Also joining Cindy's Friday "Show and Tell" at My Romantic Home.

While en route to a mini-vacation to the ocean earlier this week, my eagle eyes spotted a church "nearly new" shop in a town near the beach.

On the way home,  I informed my husband I'd like to stop at the little shop.  It had been in existence 55 years, a very friendly worker informed us. That's a long run for a thrift shop!  The church's mission projects benefit from proceeds of all the items sold.

Most of the items were nicely displayed, sparkling clean, and upscale. There was a small room in front and a bigger room in the back. That's where I spotted my new found treasure-----a glass and brass nick knack glass-enclosed shelving unit. It happened to be quite dusty and up on the top shelf in the back room.

(Looking down into it through the glass top. Isn't that a cool shot?)

Even though a lot of interior decorators now consider brass obsolete, it still appeals to me. The best part of the dusty unit was that it had little feet and could be used on a counter instead of being hung on a wall.

For $12, I couldn't resist, although that is more than I usually pay for anything in a thrift shop. Once home, it got a sudsy washing and was laid down on a towel on the counter to dry.

When I went to take photos of the unit for this post, my own reflection, or my fingers,  or images of the camera kept showing up in the mirrored back of the rack. Let me tell you, it was quite a challenge to get good shots.

The little glass shelves now hold my storyteller collection.  If you would like more information on this collection , check out a post on it titled Native American Art from Clay.

HAVE YOU BEEN TO CHURCH RESALE SHOPS IN YOUR AREA?

Susan, that little shop is the most precious little shop I've seen. That curio is beautiful and I love the Native American statues. I am visiting from the Thrifty Groove. xo,

I love church resale shops. They support great causes and their prices are usually great! I love your little mirrored shelf unit! Great find.

Dearest Susan,

That was a nice ending of your mini-vacation at the beach! Yes, I too know how challenging anything with glass can be. My, there is almost no angle that works well. I've often told my husband Pieter that more and more I admire all those professional photographers for magazines and such. It looks all so perfect but I bet you there are lots of missers too...

Have a great weekend!

Lots of love,

Mariette

A beautiful little cabinet! I have a mirror, brass, and glass jewelry box that is similar. I love it! It was purchased years ago on a trip to Mexico. I love how the addition of brass adds some "shine" to a room!

Susan, Thanks for joining in the giveaway. You don't have to be a techie at all as the photobook is very easy to create.
Hope you win:-) Please help pass the word around regarding the giveaway...thanks Anu

Susan,
What a fantastic find and I definitely don't consider brass obsolete! I still love it and you need to make your home into something that you love and not care about what the latest style is! That is my motto!

We don't have any Church Thrift Shops in our area that I am aware of but I run our church's flea market. A lot of the churches hold yearly or biannual flea markets as a fund raiser.
The hospital system that I work for has a Thrift Shop but I seldom get to go to it as it is only open 3 week days a week, no weekends which is rather stupid, I think. And since I work night shift and it does not open until 10 am, the hours are not good for me.
We do have a lot of Salvation Army, Good will and a local organization called Volunteer's of America Thrift Shops.

Have a great weekend!

Hugs,
Debbie

What a nice "find" to bring home from a trip. And I had not seen your storyteller dolls before and they are as exciting as your new brass and glass!

What a great find and you have the perfect collection to display inside. That makes it even more valuable.

Good job on shooting reflective surfaces.

I have never been to one of these - these are a little bit expensive looking for thrifts - the items were beautiful! Lovely.

Oh, I love church sales! I have some wonderful things at them. What a great find you got in this curio cabinet! I think $12.00 was a good price. Thank you for joining TTF and I hope you have a fun weekend!

It is so much nicer to visit a thrift store that is organized with items of like nature or color grouped together. Some places you go into are just a mess. Your new find it perfect for your storyteller collection. After reading your old post, I see just how small those dolls really are, so your cabinet is the perfect size. Hope your Friday is a good one. Best wishes, Tammy
