Cranberry Glass : Life Through Rose Colored Glasses

Today, we are joining Diann at The Thrifty Groove for "Thrifty Things Friday." Also joining Cindy's Friday "Show and Tell" at My Romantic Home.

One of my favorite collections, actually started when my late Mom gave me a piece, is cranberry glass----deep pink glass that is mixed with molten gold. Now it's not the kind of thing one usually finds in a thrift shop or yard sale. It's quite pricey and is definitely a collectible glass that's higher end.

So you can imagine how my heart started beating rather rapidly when, while strolling around a Salvation Army store, my eyes riveted on a very large pink glass vase.  It was rather dirty. It looked  like  the vase had held a plant as a layer of dirt lined the inside bottom.

Holding it up to the light, I scratched the surface of the glass to see if the pink was paint. It was not. This magnificent vase looked to be a dead ringer for cranberry glass.

At $6.99, would I put this vase back on the shelf?  Not on your life.

Once home, after a warm water and sudsy bath, the vase sparkled. It is a perfect match for my other cranberry glass pieces. Talk about a "pearl" in a clam shell, this vase is my cranberry "pearl."

Recently, I changed our mantle by adding some pieces from my collection, with the vase standing front and center.  (Watch for tomorrow's post for more details of the changes, if interested.)

HAVE YOU SEEN CRANBERRY GLASS IN YOUR TRAVELS?

I think I have a small vase that my mother gave me when she was down sizing. I must get it out of the storage box and check it out. Your glass is beautiful.

Your cranberry vase is beautiful. What a great collection and a great find. I actually found a small cranberry vase at the thrift store many years ago. I am sure someone didn't know what they were giving away. Thanks for sharing. Karie

Dearest Susan,

Lucky you for spotting this gem! Yes, I do have a perfect cranberry glass vase myself. It is lovely and very valuable; given it is not damaged in any way.

Lots of love and a great weekend!

What a great find Susan! Are you gonna add anything to the vase like a big beautiful bouquet or just let it shine on its own in all its glory? Cobalt blue glass is much easier to find on this side of the world. Have a fabulous Friday. Tammy

I have a very few pieces of red...don't think they are cranberry because the red is so deep. One is powder box from France...I should show you sometime! Your pieces are lovely....

I absolutely love this vase and I like cranberry glass more than cobalt.

Adore cranberry glass. I still have a lamp and a few pieces but sold most of it when we moved. How stupid was that?
