Today, we are joining Diann at The Thrifty Groove for "Thrifty Things Friday." Also joining Cindy's Friday "Show and Tell" at My Romantic Home.
Since painting the kitchen walls in pale yellow, called "Morning Sunshine," a liking for blue and white patterned plates, sometimes with a touch of yellow, has grown to large proportions.
Some of the found plates, such as the one above, are from Poland and have rather zany designs. Other plates have floral motifs.
A problem with the plates occurred. There was no more room in the pantry to store them. Shelves and cabinets reached full capacity. A solution had to be found.
One day, while glancing up at the new kitchen cabinets, a thought came to mind.
"Why not make the tops of the cabinets into a little art gallery?"
Each plate was placed on holders, purchased at the Christmas Tree Shops, and carefully arranged on top of the cabinets. Do you think they look pretty good?
This sweet little number from bright yellow lemons against a dark blue border.
The one glass paned cabinet started to look messy with its assortment of spices and so forth. So a lacy table runner got taped inside the door and it lends a nice look to the glass panes.
DO YOU DISPLAY ART IN YOUR KITCHEN?
Hi Susan, my kitchen is blue and white and yellow too so I love your plates. I decorate every room, every nook and cranny. The Arabs are not known for that, so when some people come to my place, they can't even believe that I decorate the bathroom. Ha! And one Palestinian friend wanted to know where my fridge was in the kitchen. It is covered in magnets so one might just think it is a display piece rather than a working kitchen appliance. ha-ha! Hope you have a happy day. Tammy
ReplyDeleteYou have a knack adn maybe should consider interior design. These plates are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love plates displayed in a kitchen. I wish I had an above the cabinets display area in my home. I think they look awesome. I have to settle for hanging them on the wall in my breakfast nook and dining room. hugs, Linda

ReplyDeleteHey, good idea Susan...go into interior design...what a great career that would be for you. I can't display anything because of frequent earthquakes...small ones ..but some day a big one is supposed to occur..yikes! Your kitchen is bright and cheery.
ReplyDeletei LOVE the way you displayed those plates. the similar colors make it work, and it isn't too much. sometimes tops of cabinets tend to get a bit...much. yours look great!
