Blue and Yellow Casserole Dish

Today, we are joining Diann at The Thrifty Groove for "Thrifty Things Friday." Also joining Cindy's Friday "Show and Tell" at My Romantic Home.


      The covered casserole dish sat demurely on a shelf in a thrift store and I admired the yellow flowers or fruit  against a blue background.

       It reminded me of a painting by Monet.

       Unfortunately, I couldn't think of a reason it would be needed.  But I kept returning to it because it was so doggone pretty.  It even had sweet little utilitarian handles!

       Finally, I carefully placed the covered casserole in my cart.

       Since bringing it home and scouring it with hot, soapy water, it has been used it for many occasions. Usually, it's to deliver food to someone in need.

       One time, it contained homemade chicken soup for someone who was feeling ill. Most recently, it held stuffed cabbage rolls for a new mother who returned home from the hospital with a newborn girl who is just a baby doll. She's as light as a feather and probably weighs less than the casserole! 

       It always gets returned to me, washed and dried.  It's beautiful.  When it's not in use, it sits on top of the refrigerator in my remodeled blue, yellow, and white kitchen.

       Moral of the story?  If you see something you love in a thrift store, buy it.  If you wait and go back, it's almost guaranteed it will be gone.  (That happened to me recently with a set of drop dead gorgeous rose covered dishes. I wanted them, didn't buy them, and lost them. Reminded me of the expression "he who hesitates is lost.")

The blue, yellow, and white covered casserole dish cost $5.99 and, to me, it was a great investment. Actually, guess it was needed, after all.
