Everyone has certain flowers they consider extra special. They tug at the heart. Sometimes they are very fragrant or colorful.
Pink roses do all of the above for me. So do stargazer lilies, gardenias, and night jasmine.
Unfortunately, I've never cared for orange lilies. When we were kids we called them tiger lilies. Now I am far from being a flower expert so it's not 100 percent positive that the flowers shown in today's post are tiger lilies or not.
It's been so many years since I've seen her sparkling blue eyes and felt her ample bosom squeezing me close to her heart. If I close my eyes, I can still see her gray hair pulled back in a bun. She never cut her hair and I'm told it went way past her waist when she brushed it out.
It's my belief that we will one day once again see all our loved ones who have gone before us to another realm of life. That's comforting to me. I can't wait to see both of my Grandmas again, and my Mom and Daddy, too.
You know what? I'm getting used to orange lilies and don't dislike them quite so much anymore.
WHAT FLOWER DO YOU LIKE THE BEST?
I really can't say that I don't like a flower...most have some charm and beauty. I'm not an orange fan but Day Lilies, Poppies and Zinnias have changed my mind about that color when it comes to flowers.
ReplyDeleteWe call them Tiger Lilies here too............ What a wonderful memory or your Grandmother.
ReplyDeleteI love anything that grows ... even weeds! Flowers of any color are a beautiful thing! To me, the best bouquet is one that has just been gathered from a field or the yard. No fancy schmancy ones for me. Just a hodge podge of this and that in a simple jar.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I remember about my Mammaw is she always, always had bright red fingernails and when she drove, she always had her hands at 10 and 2 and rubbed her thumbs on the steering wheel. :) Strange memory, huh!
have a great day! Tammy

I would have guess lilies, but not tiger lilies - I thought they had some black stripes in it to make it look like a tiger.
ReplyDeleteNo matter - I'm allergic to flowers, but I'm a visual flower person and I love any flowers of any type.
I had a similar relationship with Tiger Lilies...but this spring when rain was plentiful, I noticed them everywhere! I took new notice. Alas, they are all gone now in the drought and blistering heat...but next year, I will look again.
ReplyDeleteI have so many favorites Susan!
ReplyDeleteOf course roses, lavender (I will call it a flower today), gardenias, forget-me-nots, wisteria, orange blossoms and orchids.
I have probably left out many...
