First Words in the Morning: Thank You, God

Each day upon waking, a prayer of thanks starts the day.

Thanks for the night that has just passed.

Thanks for the new, full day of life about to begin.

Thanks for my family, for health, for my jobs, for my blog, and for my cat!

When details come to mind, I'm thankful for toothpaste, running water, the ability to walk instead of use a wheelchair, for morning coffee (especially with half-and-half), and so on.

Truly, one thing I've learned in this old life is that an attitude of gratitude is the way to happiness. It stops complaining, lamenting, and whining in their tracks.

I've read that it's also important to thank God for things before they happen!

So I thank Him for the updated car for my hubs (it hasn't come yet); for a comfortable couch (please?); and for weight loss (still working on it but still like half-and-half. ha!)

When giving constant thanks, my attitude improves and then it becomes a reality----my attitude determines my altitude as another day begins.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE?

thank you for the food we eat,
thank you for the birds that sing,
thank you GOD for everything! A childhood prayer I say each day!

  3. I love the "details" of your gratitude, Susan. (It makes me wonder which comes first -- the attitude or the details. i.e. Does the attitude help us note the details or the details add up to an attitude?)

  4. It's joy! When we are joyful we are like a cup, overpoured, just bubbling over with thanksgiving. God inhabits the praise of His people. I just added you to my own praise--how you've lifted my heart this Sabbath day!

    Blessings,
    Pamela

  7. Thanks for coming by to visit me and leaving a comment. It helped me find your beautiful blog. I once heard it said that the color pink is the most soothing color of all colors. I think it is. I loved this post...the truths you brought out refreshed my heart this morning. Thank you! I'm so glad to have met you. Have a blessed day.... Maggie Ann

  8. Such a beautiful, uplifting post, such a blessing. I am a simple girl who finds rainbows of sparkling sun in my soap suds doing my dishes. I start and end my day with prayer of thanksgiving and basically thank Jesus all day long, sometimes I burst out in song (in the car alone with a/c on windows closed, hehe)I am so blessed. On a now quite meager budget the news can be scary, cutback and higher prices across the board eat away more and more of a meager SS checks, but you know this week alone the Lord has shown hubby and I just how closely He listens to our prayers of thanksgiving. Like you, I thank Him for what is not seen yet! Today I thank Him for your blog, the blessing I received reading your wonderful post! May the day bring an abundance of blessings to you and hubby.

  12. I do believe an attitude of gratitude is necessary. I am always thankful, but never moreso than when I go to bed at night. In the quiet before sleep I am ever more thankful. Wishing you a blessed new week. Tammy

  13. Dear Susan, I couldn't agree more. What a beautiful post, on such an important topic--gratitude. Like you, the first words out of my mouth every morning (before I even get my feet on the floor): "Thank you, Lord, for this wonderful new day." No matter what it holds, I know He will help me through it.

    Love, love this post!

  14. Yes, I do, and I need to work on practicing it more often. It is often the little things that make our day so much better (like toothpaste). Thank you for this lovely reminder!

    Have a wonderful week,
    Karen

  15. I just love a reminder to "give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God concerning you." We have so, so much, most importantly HIM! But like you, I'm also thankful for heat, air conditioning, electricity, and running water! Thanks for sharing. Hugs ~ Mary
