Giving Thanks Today, Sunday, (and Every Day)

On the table near my bed, there are usually a couple piles of books.

Before sleep, I like to scan several of them. It's kind of like taking bites from different dishes on a smorgasbord except the bites are of reading instead of eating.

A most delightful book in one of the piles is "Every Day A Friday" by the evangelical preacher, Joel Osteen.

In one of the chapters, he stresses the importance of giving thanks because each new day of life is a precious gift.

It's true, as Joel says, that a thankful heart cannot be a complaining heart.

So today, why not try to find at least a couple dozen things in life to be thankful for?

I'm very thankful for you,  a dear reader of this blog.

Also, I'm thankful for that gorgeous bouquet of roses at the top of this post.

For candle light and scented candles. Right now, I'm burning a cinnamon/orange candle and it's wonderful.

On St. Paddy's Day, I made corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. They all came out great but ooooo wee.

The odor afterward throughout the house was not good. Now, thanks to the candle, it smells nice and spicy.

And for things around here that make me laugh, like this little two inch cat hanging on to the edge of a votive holder.

For pretty cups from which to drink coffee:

For a crackling fire in the fireplace in winter:

For this most precious day of life.

  2. Grateful people are happy people. There was a time when I kept a gratitude journal, of sorts. It is very eye-opening when you look at all of the blessings around you, even on your worst day.

  3. I'm grateful for so many things...including this land of blog. It's such a blessing to get to know others in this forum.
I have a little notebbok that i keep with me - it's handy to jot down things I'm thankful for in. Like Saturday evening...the beautiful sunset was breathtaking!

  4. I'm smiling... John is sitting nearby eating a breakfast muffin and I just asked him if I should make the corned beef that I wanted to make yesterday. He twitched his nose and mumbled something about not liking the smell of it cooking. Oh, well, I think I am making it anyway :)

The roses are gorgeous! I am thankful for your blog and sweet words and always enjoy visiting. Appreciate your sharing on TOTT!

  12. The roses are beautiful but so is the tea cup! It allows you to have roses in the winter! Don't keep a gratitude journal although I have tried. Just TRY to grateful each day...sometimes I forget.

I am very grateful for your lovely comments this morning on my blog about the far. Thank you!

  14. Giving thanks - that's always such a good reminder because it's human nature sometimes to think on the negative and oh-my's ... when it takes less energy and brings more joy to think of our blessings. Thanks for sharing. Hugs ~ Mary

  16. Oh how nice is this post? It really made me think of how much we take for granted. Thank you for reminding me.

Also thank you for your visit and nice comment. I live in Australia,so the statuary here for the garden can be quite inexpensive,as we find people make a lot at home and sell it at markets quite cheaply. It's just a pity we can't fit too many into our little garden.
My son bought a house that was quite run down, and this birdbath was broken in half lying in the back garden. He was going to dump it,but as you know I can't bare waste, soooo we carted it home. My hubby cemented it together and I mosaic'd over to cover the mess. It's a bit wobbly,so we shove big pots around it to make sure it doesn't fall over.:) waste not want not,I say Ha ha. oh and your roses are so beautiful.
