Happy Halloween! Have a "Spooktacular" Day and Night!

Happy Halloween to all who celebrate it!

For those do don't, hope you have a good day anyway!

The other day, while  walking around in a Goodwill thrift store, getting my "thriftie fix,"  I came across a package of Martha Stewart paper pumpkins on picks!
They were so darned cute and cost $1.29!

Naturally, I had to make some cupcakes to go with them.  Plus I had company here last night  so it was the perfect opportunity.

I usually have boxes of cake mix in the pantry, buying several when they are on sale.

As for the frosting, I absolutely loathe the kind that comes in a can. Yuk!  One can always tell it's bought frosting.

Instead, I take confectionery sugar, mix it with 4 ounces of cream cheese, a teaspoon of vanilla and a splash of milk. Whip it all up in the blender and YUM!

For the golden yellow cupcakes shown above, I used light orange colored frosting. Got the shade by squeezing a tiny tad of red food coloring and mixing it with a tiny tad of yellow into the cream cheese frosting!

Don't you just love finding something special when you least expect it?  Those little paper pumpkins on picks made the cupcakes look extra special and ready for Halloween munching!

I also found the wolf mask at the Goodwill but have decided not to wear it for trick or treaters.

It's just too doggone scary.  There's no way I'd want to scare the little ones who will come to our door.

Maybe I'll put wolfie in the window, instead.  If a little one got scared, I could show it was just a mask and not real.

Plus, it looks like his teeth need some whitening! ha!

By the way, I've seen some very expensive price tags on masks. Wolfie was $2.79 so it was still a pretty good bargain!

WHAT'S THE LAST GREAT BARGAIN YOU FOUND?

  1. Susan,
The wolf mask is so spooky. It reminds me of a mask that my husband bought one year for Halloween. Those cupcakes look so yummy, and I love orange flavored frosting. It looks like you are having so much fun this Halloween. We used to have haunted houses and little parties when the kids were small. Great memories.

  2. I still get scared of spooky things!
I'm so glad you are all ok...such a terrible time for so many people and their families. I am happy to be living on the west coast!
One of my best bargains was a little paper mache pumpkin head (the old ones) at a thrift store for 49¢I was so scared they were going to say, oh that should be $49! I also got a double wedding ring hand quilted quilt for $9.95 at a thrift store...same thrift store! Those are my two big finds!

  3. Hi Susan,
Halloween was never celebrated here when I was a kid but it's taking off lately, the shops are full of spooky stuff and they have been having zoombie balls in town.
I haven't seen anything as spooky as that wolf mask that's a beauty.

  7. That is one realistic wolf mask, Susan! It almost scares me!:) Who can pass up a bargain when it is something of Martha's design.

My last bargain came from a dress shop that has downsized/relocated. For $5.00 I came home with a dress and jacket that had an original price of $200!

    Enjoy your Halloween!

  11. Not a fan of spooky...at my age if someone scares me I would probably tinkle in my pants The wolf is pretty scary but I admire the detail on it. My latest bargain was finding some frames at Michael's at 40% off original price. I would lick all the frosting off the cup cakes...love home made. :)
