Delightful Pursuit in a Snow Storm



At least five inches of snow had accumulated during the night last weekend and thousands of flakes continued to come fluttering down from the sky.

 The city plows were out in full force but driving still felt sketchy.



So what's a woman to do after unburying her car from under that thick blanket of snow?  

 Go to a library used book sale, of course!

Attending such sales is utterly delightful to me. They are the essence of pure joy and every second spent perusing dozens of book-lined shelves makes me want to dance.

It's also wonderful to be in the company of other book-lovers.


They came out in droves, despite the storm!

Rather than list all  17 of the treasures I found (for less than $20.00), I'd rather share them with you, little by little, as I read them.

Once home, with a fire crackling in the fireplace, I nibbled, one by one, on my smorgasbord of new-to-me books. 

 I snapped a photo of them for you, after setting them up on the kitchen table.

    It is hard to resist buying books. Thankfully there are so many of them in used bookstores and thrift stores or even available for free! I give mine away regularly through my local freecycle. Even so I have too many and I've just purchased more for Christian study. Right now I'm reading "Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens.

    Hello from Spain: I love going to book stores and to buy good books at cheap prices. Right now I'm reading the 'Tree of Knowledge' of Pío Baroja. He is a Spanish writer of the early twentieth century. Keep in touch

    Hi my friend, more snow? GOODNESS! We had temps in the 60's this past weekend and it was oh so nice....SUNSHINE!
    Your books look so fun. I hit the book sale at our library last year and should check for dates again. it's really a fun thing to do.
    I'm not reading anything right now. Just have a busy week ahead with projects to finish, so I won't be reading for a bit.
    Susan, I am constantly amazed at what a GREAT job you do with your blogging. I know you don't accept awards, but I would give you one for doing a fabulous job and always entertaining me in the process.

    "From Preparation to Passion" and "This Will Be Remembered of Her" are what I am reading now. I read "Escape" over the week-end.

    Our library book sale is downtown, and is presently underway.

    I don't have snow (sorry to tell you) but with jury duty last week, I got caught up on one of my favorite authors--Joanne Fluke. She writes the "Hannah Swenson" books; a cookie bakery owner who solves murder mysteries in a small town in Minnesota. Not deep, but very enjoyable and has some interesting recipes included throughout the story. Stay warm, XOXO

    You do get some snow-but I also know you get to spend fun days with a little grand baby!! I am a huge fan of Norman Vincent Peale-his writing has seen me through some struggles! Oh and Joel Osteen-another favorite.

    Your book sales are pretty good I have never been to one here I think they hang onto the books till they die and fall apart. My daughters partner ordered about 20 books from library in USA, they were Robert Goddard books it would have taken forever to get them here, and they were not very much even with freight charges

    I have some of those books too! Such good reading! I especially enjoy the Kitchen Gardens book. Possibly because the illustrations are by Tasha Tudor. Very nice!
