I've seen sculptures in backyards that are quite breathtaking.
When looking on the Internet for ones I liked, the prices almost made me keel over.
"Forget sculptures," I thought but immediately nixed that statement.
In the supermarket, I spotted a big angel with a lovely wingspan and pretty, "angelic" face.
Unbelievably, she was on sale for under $17! All she needed was a couple coats of white paint. Done!
A stop at a Christmas Tree Shops netted a pedestal to put angel girl on. It was also under $20.
Lastly, I had seen mirrors used in gardens on Pinterest and on Carolyn's beautiful blog, Aiken House and Gardens so decided to be on the lookout for one.
Truthfully, I never before thought about putting a mirror outside in the yard.
Found one in a thrift shop. The tag read $25 but a lady there sold it to me for $20.
Hubs used Gorilla Glue to attached angel girl to the pedestal. I painted the mirror frame white and hubs hung it from a fence.
We placed a few plants near her, a small table with a flowering plant and the angel sculpture is now a reality.
At night, a candle glowing near her makes her even more beautiful!
Final cost was a tad more than $50 which sure beat the $2000 to $3000 sculptures I loved!
Today we are joining Linda from A La Carte and Diann from The Thrifty Groove for Thrifty Things Friday! Stop by their blogs to visit.
HAVE YOU EVER USED A MIRROR IN THE BACK YARD?
You have created a beautiful setting, Susan! No mirrors in our yard. We have bright sunshine all day. That is, when there isn't rain falling.:-) We've had rain, rain, and more rain for the past week, and it will continue into the coming week.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I have never used a mirror in my yard but I love how it reflects this sculpture. Thanks for sharing how you made this in a thrifty way for TTF.

Your angel is priceless, in the best sense, she is beautiful and a reminder of our Creator. You have a great bargain in what you spent too. I have not used a mirror in my yard but may one of these days.
ReplyDeleteYou have made a lovely garden decor! The angle you purchased is very pretty, I like it a lot. what a fab aide to have a mirror in the back yard! why not?
ReplyDeleteNo we don't have one, as our garden doesn't permit us for such decorations.
No mirrors here....the neighborhood children would run into them with their bikes and crush them with their basketballs! Your display is quite lovely, and I'm sure you are enjoying it a lot! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI have the same angel! I love how a mirror extends the garden and reflects light in a shady area (sun reflecting makes them a fire hazard).
It is fun to do a thrifty project-good job!
Carolyn
Beautiful serene setting and I love the night glow. Never thought to use mirrirs outdoors. Clever.
ReplyDeleteI love it - and I love the pastel lights at night - you did an awesome awesome job! So pretty. sandie
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful, Susan. You did a great job putting it all together.
ReplyDeleteAs for mirrors in the yard, I have looked for one in years past, but never found what I wanted. I think they're unique garden ornaments.
Hello from Spain: in my country I never saw a mirror in the yard but I like that idea. It's very cool. You made a great purchase with the angel's face. Beautiful sculpture. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteI hope with this heat wave on that you get some time to spend outside with your angel.
