The breakfast I hosted for sweet guests on Sunday turned out great, despite cooking and setting the table in sauna bath heat.
Here was the menu:
Creme Brulee French Toast
Fancy Egg Scramble
Beans with sour cream and salsa
Rice
Fried Platanos
Multi-fruit cup
Zatar with olive oil and pita bread triangles
Coffee with half-and-half
Saturday night I spent three hours preparing Creme Brulee French Toast and Fancy Egg Scramble, both of which needed overnight refrigeration.
Also had small red beans (frijoles) cooking in the crock pot.
Sliced fresh berries, sprinkled them with sugar, and put them in a container in the fridge.
Mixed fresh pineapple chunks, coconut, cubed nectarines and peaches, cherry halves, grapes, and Gala apple chunks.
(In the morning, I added the strawberries, blueberries, fresh raspberries, watermelon and cantaloupe.)
Zatar is a Mediterranean spice mixture that contains sesame seeds, oregano and lemon flavor.
It's utterly delicious.
It's served with pita bread triangles which are dipped in olive oil and then the zatar. Yum!
My splurge of the day was a bouquet of six roses, three yellow and three red.
Soooo pretty for a centerpiece along with candles in the big brass candlesticks.
After making the casseroles and fruit cup, I set the dining room table.
By bedtime, exhaustion was threatening to take over but after seven hours of sleep, I was raring to go.
Tomorrow I'll share the story and recipe behind the Fancy Egg Scramble, so, if interested, stay tuned.
Here are the fried platanos. They taste best with a plop of delicious sour cream!

Hi Susan, your breakfast sounds great. I just had a piece of toast with zatar. The Palestinians believe that eating it makes you smarter. And there is a Bethlehem proverb that says: “Thyme and oil lead to the prosperity of the home.” :) Wishing you a wonderful week. Tammy
I love making breakfast...or rather brunch, but I'm not really a breakfast eating person. Your "spread," however, sounds amazing and I hope your guest really appreciated all your hard work, XOXO
What a beautiful layout for a breakfast!! Your fruit looks almost like ambrosia! I love breakfast!
What an amazing breakfast menu! I'd love to have the recipe for the French Toast, along with the egg casserole.
Yes, I cannot begin my day without breakfast. No one ever left the house without breakfast when the three girls were growing up, either.
Have a great Monday!
Oh Susan this looks so great! I love breakfast but I'm not one to cook it! LOL, so I eat muffins and cereal mostly.
That breakfast looked beautiful - almost too beautiful to eat. But I think I could.
I am not a huge breakfast eater - I usually eat oatmeal, but in this case I would eat everything you made (except the coconut - lol).
You do such a wonderful job and the recipients were blessed.
Love, sandie
Oh my gosh, do things look good! I would love to taste that zatar, never heard of it before! Fruit sounds wonderful...all of it...wish I could have been there. want to hear about your eggs too! You have inspired me...maybe I will hustle up something here....
This looks wonderful! I do eat breakfast, but never quite like this. The next time I am in your area, I think I will have to invite myself over. :)
Have a great week!
Blessings,
Karen
P.S. Your bucket list looks great. You should go for it!
Hello from Spain: I like the table decorations. Everything is very tasty and pretty. Great job. I'm sure your guests are happy. Keep in touch
Your breakfast was a labor of love, Susan. The guests must have been very special indeed, as cooking all that in this heat must have been quite an undertaking. Guess you really, really must love entertaining. The table scape was lovely; very "midsummer" with the reds and yellows. Lucky guests.
I do like breakfast; my favorite is eggs benedict. For something simpler, just some good, hearty bread toasted with some homemade jam and coffee. Maybe a couple of strips of bacon.
Hope you enjoyed your scrumptious breakfast as much as your guests did!
For breakfast I have an English Muffin and a cup of tea..ha ha. Your guests must have really enjoyed the fruits of your labor in all that heat! Good for you.
Hi Susan: Again, if we only lived closer! Love what you made everything looks so good. Always a pleasure to hear from you dear friend. Hugs, Martha
Oh yes, Susan, I love breakfast. I think it's my favorite meal, although I only have oatmeal or eggs or a pastry and coffee. Your menu looks so delicious. I didn't realize you were such a good cook.
Have a happy week.
Love,
~Sheri
