Here's one for the books.
The part of Massachusetts where we live is about two to three hours away from the ocean.
However, in a parking lot of a town where I recently did some shopping, there were numerous seagulls in the parking lot of a little shopping center!
Sad to say, there was a big fast food place nearby and people were feeding the birds pieces of their fries and buns.
All I could think of was how unhealthy that diet was for the birds (as well as the people).
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY SEAGULLS WOULD LIVE FAR AWAY FROM THE SEA?
Maybe they were on vacation, Suzan! Have a good Saturday, more rain here of course.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen them that far inland. Is a storm brewing off shore?
ReplyDeleteWell I wish I could tell you why. I don't know. But they sure were beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGood norning Susan, I live about that far inland for the ocean on the other side of the USA! We often get seagulls inland here too. People have told me it's because of the weather, not sure. I wonder if they follow the food source along bodies of water inland?
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Looks like you are having rain....very dry here in OR
Those flying rats will eat almost anything, my friend from Boston says.
ReplyDeleteWe have seagulls in our Target parking lot and boy are we far away from the sea. Have always been curious as to why they are here. :) Kit
ReplyDeleteWe live 5 miles from the sea and find seagulls come inland when there's a storm coming. There are big problems at seasides with seagulls actually attacking people.....particularly children....to steal their food. It's never wise to feed a seagull ?! Joan
ReplyDeleteThere are different kinds of gulls... we have gulls and we're a thousand miles inland from any ocean, but they are not 'sea' gulls, some other variety. That's what my hubby told me.
ReplyDeleteI've often thought the same thing about the diet of fast food they live on in parking lots... for the birds and for the peoples. Ow...
We have seagulls in the parking lot of our local grocery store too and we are about an hour from the shore. Our daughter just returned from a week at the beach as she said the seagulls were way more aggressive than years past, practically snatching food right from your hand.
ReplyDeleteI know there are seagulls around the Great Lakes, but not sure why they would be there. Agree about the diet, although seagulls are scavengers. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteWe have seen sea gulls in our area for several years, too, and we are many, many miles away from the ocean. Our theory is that they are losing their habitat and source of food.
ReplyDeleteI see the gulls all the time where I live. They are just looking for food wherever they can find it.
ReplyDeleteI find them every where...a lot inland from the great lakes.
