This weekend before Thanksgiving, even more than usual, it would be so good to think of all the things in our lives we have to be grateful for.
This holiday season, so many people are struggling.
I know many families who don't even know how they are going to buy presents for their kids this coming Christmas.
It breaks my heart.
Childhood should be a happy time, carefree and filled with memory-making activities.
Kids should feel secure, loved, protected, nurtured and cherished.
Instead, so many little ones end up hearing their parents arguing with each other, seeing them struggling to put food on the table, to pay the bills and just survive.
If we have enough food to eat and sufficient money to pay the bills, those are things for which to be very grateful.
This weekend before Thanksgiving, let's think of the faces of little ones and, if possible, offer up a silent and heartfelt prayer for them.
DO YOU KNOW PEOPLE WHO ARE STRUGGLING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON?
So many of so many ages are suffering and in need. It is overwhelming to know how to help the world...but it begins with one prayer, one step at a time and some gratitude every day.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very difficult time for many, many people and it is overwhelming to think of how to make a difference. We have so much to be thankful for and have to try to find ways to share our bounty with those in need. I always give to the food pantries through the library "food for fines" program and also the supermarket collection. I know it is a small contribution, but feel if everyone did the same(and many people do) it does make a difference.
ReplyDeleteA prayer of gratitude and one for those in need.....
As the anniversary of Sandy Hook approaches, my heart and prayers go out to those families affected; the death of a child changes you forever. I join you in wishing that all children should feel safe and loved. Happy Thanksgiving, dear friend, XOXO
ReplyDeleteHello from Spain: I agree with you. If we have enough food and enough money to pay the bills, we are grateful. Children must be happy. I join in your prayer. At this time, my country is suffering an economic crisis that affects the middle classes. Families are unemployed and without money ... I seek help from the church. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there are people in our extended family in this situation. Hard times have hit, but our family is here to help.

I know people who are struggling - and sometimes it is not about food - but for what the holidays stand for - family, etc. God is good though - all the time. sandie
ReplyDeleteI do. Your post hits home as we struggle to find work now that our home is half done. No fun getting rejected at our age all the time but I KNOW God will provide as He always has! I hope your holiday is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan. I've known people all my life who struggled financially in one way or another, family and friends. I've had tough times, too, but somehow things work out....
ReplyDeletePrayers for all who need shelter and food this holiday season. I'm very grateful to God for all He has bestowed on me and my family. I contribute to an adopted family each year through my employer...every little bit helps!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan...and I saw Chatty Crone...hello to you too. It's been a long time since I've been on here. I haven't posted on my blog since the Crocheted Afghan I made for my grandma and she died very shortly after that. I was glad my youngest kids got to see her in the nursing home when she was still alert. I guess I went through depression and some things going on. Things were starting to get better and then I got laid off a couple weeks ago. I am thankful I will get unemployment and I am thankful for a lot of things in my life because I know there are people who are a whole lot worse off than myself. This was a good post Susan, because it is a time of year when a lot of people struggle, and I do have a lot to be thankful for. Sincerely, Cheryl
ReplyDeleteYes, people are struggling and in addition to helping out on my own, I love to join in my church's huge work to help folks. I imagine every church does this, thank goodness because there is so much need.
ReplyDeleteGreat fall photo of the orange leaves and glass vase and pretty table top.
Susan,
ReplyDeletePeople struggle in all forms don't they-food, shelter, clothing, love, health. We all need to remember this and reach out as we can.
Thinking of you and yours and wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving-
Jemma
