The Bittersweet Feelings of Autumn

Today is Presidential election day in the United States of America.

It's been a long and ugly campaign and a lot of people, myself included, will be so glad when today is over.

No matter who you choose to vote for in this election, the key word is "vote."

It's a huge gift, (and responsibility), to be able to vote freely, and one that hundreds of people in the past helped attain through blood, sweat and tears.

And now, here's today's blog post:

These waning days of autumn are so bittersweet.

Skies are still blue and the sun still shines most days.

However, leaves from the brilliantly colored, festive trees are falling like raindrops.

Soon only bare branches will be visible on the neighborhood trees and they will look skeletal against slate gray skies.

When the dark days of winter arrive, and we all know they will, we'll have to think back on these gorgeous days of autumn for solace.

Spring will come again to light up our lives and bring many good things.

DO YOU FEEL NOSTALGIC IN AUTUMN?

  5. Yes, I feel a bit sentimental in Autumn, Susan. Been thinking of my grandfather lately. :) Your pictures of the golden Autumn leaves is very pretty.

  6. Yes, I always feel very melancholy and sentimental in Autumn, especially more so as my parents age closer and closer to their end of life (Dad turned 91 yesterday and my Mom is 86 with advanced Alzheimer's), and even as I too age. There's something about autumn that makes it a marker in time, a reminder of the all-too-quick passage of life.
