Those shown in this post are displayed for the upcoming Christmas holidays at Kringle Candle Company in Bernardston, Massachusetts.
Making gingerbread houses from scratch and then decorating them have always been part of the holidays in our house.
Our two "kids" (now both in their 40s), and many foster children as well as teenage parents, have participated in decorating the houses.
It would be impossible to determine how many dozens of houses have been baked here throughout the decades.
They are certainly not as fancy as the houses at Kringle Candle Company but they have always been festive and decorative.
Now, grandchildren love making and decorating them!
Making the spicy dough from scratch, baking it on cookie sheets, cutting out all the pieces, then "gluing" them together with royal icing, are all part of the fun.
I can hardly wait to begin making this year's batch of gingerbread houses for many people to enjoy.
HAVE YOU EVER MADE GINGERBREAD HOUSES?
Those big gingerbread houses are too time consuming to make, nobody's got time for that. Those little gingerbread men cookies are more like it, and they make cheap ornaments for the tree.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never made a gingerbread house. I’m not very crafty. I’ve seen many of your houses though . Keep up the tradition.
ReplyDeleteI made gingerbread houses when my kids were little. They’re a LOT of work! Good for you for continuing the tradition.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful. Never made gingerbread houses but have made graham cracker houses with my kids!
ReplyDeleteThat’s nice that you are still baking the gingerbread houses. Lovely tradition!
These are works of art. We made small simple gingerbread houses, yours are glorious.
