The Many Faces of Santa

Of the many collections one has over the course of a lifetime, there are bound to be a couple of favorites.

For me, a robust Santa collection has filled that bill for many decades.

It has always been so much fun to spot a "new" Santa and bring him home to add to his brothers.

Not all, but most of the Santas, are thrifted.

This Christmas, alas, the fateful time has arrived to begin to dismantle some of the collection since there is  no longer much room for them in a small apartment and zero storage space.

Luckily, my daughter loves my collection, and left with a small army of Santas, adding them to her own highly decorated house.

Have you ever stopped to think of how Santa would look if he didn't have a beard?

It would be so weird, right?

(This is the very first Santa bought for my collection.  A very dear friend, Esperanza, gifted him to me many, many years ago.)

His fluffy white beard is always delightful and the bigger, the better.

So a good number of Santas still remain in this apartment and, little by little, will be given away.

In the meantime, if they make visitors, and myself, smile, they can stay put.

Ho Ho Ho

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LOVE ABOUT SANTA?

  1. Decades ago I had a modest Santa collection. They’re all gone now, on to new homes. I just didn’t have the room anymore.
Yours are very nice - some similar to the ones I had. They were hard at first to part with. Like old friends!
    Enjoyed this.

  2. You have quite a collection of Santa's. So delightful, Susan. I smiled when I saw "Smoking Pipe Santa." Nel has one just like that. I gave it to her many years ago, and she's always kept it. I think my favorite of your Santa's is the first one - he's the most traditional with the red suit and white beard. He has a kind and gentle face. I'm so glad you were able to keep a few of your cherished Santa's, Susan, and that the others went to your dear daughter.

  3. I like what Santa represents....laughter, love, and the gift of giving . St. Nicolas was the "first Santa" The image we have today is from the Night Before Christmas story. So happy you can keep some of your Santa collection.

  4. You do have a wonderful collection of Santas. I once did as well, but over the years, I have passed them down to one of my daughters. I love seeing the thrill on a smile child's face when they see a Santa....I just pray that their smile grows even bigger when they hear about Jesus.
