Beachside Ghost Town

Everyone has heard of abandoned ghost towns of the wild west.

We've seen the dusty streets in movies, broken shutters of empty buildings flapping in the hot wind.

Well, while walking near a lake at sunset, something caught my eye on the beach. No human was around. Squinting in the dusky light, an entire sandcastle village came into focus.

Someone, or perhaps a whole group of people,  had spent quite a bit of time designing all the roads, bridges, and streets of the sandy town.

It included stone formations, weeds for trees, a variety of buildings and walls, and so forth.

A pine cone "tree" ( shown to the left) stood bravely in the sand.

A small plastic dog figure lay abandoned in one of the streets. (Poor Fido must be wondering where his own went! Click on photo to enlarge if you want to see it.)

I loved looking at all the details of the town. One wave from the lake could wipe it out in a split second but that had not yet happened.  The town stood, in all its glory, proud and sturdy in the evening twilight.

HAVE YOU MADE CASTLES IN THE SAND?  DO YOU STILL MAKE THEM?

Growing up on the Florida coast... yes I've made them... but it's been a very long time since I have done it... Maybe I should make a point of it. This one is too cool!

very cute old ghost town; someone worked hard on this. I have been known to make likenesses of my hubby in the sand, not only castles. We used to go to Florida every year. This year we are not and my heart is broken about the Gulf mess.

I loved it when the kids would make sand castles on our beach trips! This one you photographed was a marvel!!

Susan,
It's just like you to see something special and creative and share it with us!
I love seeing things through your eyes!
I would have love to have watched the people make this sand estate, wouldn't you?
I think the dog died and the "tree" dried up from the heat!
I love making castles in the sand, but they are usually made with a plastic cup!
Hugs!

Hi Susan: Hope you are having a good weekend. Love the sand castles. Sometimes I feel like that is my life. A sand castle waiting for the wave to wash it away. Blessings, Martha

Amazing how they build such things. Reminds me of the parable.
