Birthday Gifts Don't Have to Break the Bank

At this time of year, there are so many events going on that it can get kind of expensive for anyone living on a budget.

Invitations to birthday celebrations, graduations, showers, weddings, and all kinds of other events seem to come in the mailbox daily.

Just this past weekend, there were two birthday events to attend.

Best part of any party for me is watching the antics of the littlest party-goers. They are always so adorable.

Now just look how this doll baby shows the world how enjoyable it is to eat cake!

We could all learn a bit from her, don't you think?

Here's the little darling  enraptured with a balloon!

Since the birthday girl at this party swims quite a bit during the summer,  I found a bright, colorful  and thick Martha Stewart towel on sale at Macy's and added some matching flip flops. It all came in just under $25.

The present shown at the top of this post and below was for a five-year-old.  I purchased  the Disney themed wrapping paper at Target right after Christmas last year and it was very inexpensive. Same with the pretty pink ribbon.

From a children's consignment boutique came two absolutely adorable dresses for the little birthday girl. They cost $7 and $5 and looked almost new.

Then, at Dollar Tree, I picked up a Princess coloring book, crayons, a silver colored princess crown with bright pink deocorations, and a squishy pink rubber ball that looked like a porcupine!

Cost of the entire gift was $16 which I didn't consider too extravagant for the little sweetheart who received it.

DO YOU HAVE A SET PRICE IN MIND IN ADVANCE FOR GIFTS YOU HAVE TO BUY?

Everything looks so nice and the little girl is adorable. She knows how to have fun, lol.

I don't have a set price for gifts. Thankfully I don't have to buy anymore. If I had my druthers I would buy gently used items for many reasons, philosophical and financial. Amazingly many people do not appreciate 2nd hand for a gift. In truth most people have too much and don't need more.

Hi Susan,
I love how little ones paint themselves with birthday cake.
We have a $10 per present limit in our family. A handmade pressie is always wecome.
Have a good week

That is one adorable child. Love the way they eat cake at that age. Way to go.
I usually only buy for our adult children and spend $50. For the grandchildren we give them money as they like to put it altogether and buy what they want. They seem to have everything now that they are older.
If we had littleies to buy for, it would be a lot less. Love your parcel wrapping.

Hello Susan
Just found your lovely blog.
Love your gift ideas.
I keep a bag of goodies, purchased on travels and as I see bargains. I always seem to have something on hand.
Makes thriftiness and bargain hunting fun too.

Sometimes I do but I am always looking for that something special. It is easier to buy for my granddaughter because she loves clothes whereas my grandson could care less.

She is a cutie pie. And I think that is a great way to do birthday presents and believe it or not I do the same thing. I do have a set price and I look for fun with good bargains. lol

You did very well with your gifts!

I usually have an idea about what I want to spend on gifts before I go to shop. I am also known to sometimes "shop through the year," creating a bit of a gift closet. Then, there are times when I find I have to stretch my predetermined budget just a bit.

I have found some excellent items at consignment sales, some that have never been worn, and still with tags!
