Peep, Peep, Peep Sounds Definitely Are Part of Spring

One of the most vivid memories of my childhood is seeing  baby chicks at my paternal grandmother's farmhouse.

She had a slew of hens and roosters in a side yard but I didn't like them because some were aggressive and pecked at my ankles.

But the baby chicks were soft, sweet and absolutely adorable.

Grandma would put them all in a box and haul it into the farmhouse kitchen. She had a lamp nearby, probably for warmth.

Oh, the thrill of hearing that chorus of "peep, peep, peeps."  I'd be on my knees, gawking into the box,  totally delighted by the little fluff balls.

Last weekend I happened to be on a farm and guess what they had?  Baby chicks. Once again, I was in my glory looking at the sweet little creatures.

I also saw a chicken submerged almost up to her neck in a hole in the ground. She got up, dusted herself off and waddled away.

Soon, I learned that's how chickens bathed themselves. Wow! A city girl can learn something new every day.

My visit to the farm brought back a lot of memories and turned out to be quite delightful.

                                        Bye Bye Chickies!

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR OWN VERY PLEASANT CHILDHOOD MEMORIES?

I also remember baby chicks from my grandparents home. They are so adorable. My grandfather had a huge chicken coop and raised 200 head of chickens so also remember gathering eggs. There was always that one hen who would not get off the nest and would peck at you if you tried to get her egg!

My great grandparents lived in an old house with lots of acreage and a horse that all the cousins would ride. And my great aunt would make boiled peanuts that were so good when they were fresh and hot. Yum! Have a great day. Tammy

My uncle had a dairy farm, and it was fascinating to be there at milking time. There was an automatic milking machine that really impressed me.:)

Raising chickens is becoming big thing in our area, even city folks are getting into it. Love those little peepers.

Okay now your grandmother had a farm and you went and visited a farm - where you live - with chicks?

Gosh when I was little do you remember when they colored the chicks - mine was purple and my brothers green...
