Lacy Pink Dresses Are Perfect for Spring

At Christmas time and for Valentine's Day, some of the dolls that wear red velvet come down from the second floor to the Guatemalan hutch in the dining room.

Their deep red outfits, some trimmed with fur, are perfect for the chilly weather outside.

Come springtime, however, the red velvet has to go.

Some of the dolls get a change of outfit.

Others are brought upstairs and replaced with the girls who wear lacy spring dresses.

Most are in pink or pale yellow.

Some people dislike dolls, period.

I'm not one of them.  I love dolls.

The frillier their outfits, the better!

There are a couple of old-fashioned looking dolls in my collection that are quite gorgeous.

They wear long, frilly dresses and matching hats.

They were purchased at a flea market in Tucson, Arizona.

Dolls, in general, are reminiscent of my childhood and make me happy.

As a child, I had a hodge-podge collection of dolls that numbered more than two dozen.

The strange thing was, even if a dolly lost a leg, arm, or, in  one case, her head, I kept it anyway!

I remember my late Dad built me a playhouse, attached to our garage, and that's where I could be found, with all  my dolls, from spring through autumn.

Each doll had to say a prayer at night, before I went into the big house, so you can imagine how long that took with more than 24 dolls! ha!   I must have been a "holy" kid.

ARE YOU A DOLL PERSON?

Yes -- I am. I have always loved dolls. I have some porcelain dolls, but most are in storage now. My house is not large and the guys in the family don't appreciate them very much.

Some dolls are just plain scary.
But others are beautiful. I have 3from my childhood. They have all their arms and legs but are missing a few accesories. I have my original Barbie, my Maryjane doll-by Marie Alexander and a doll called little miss no-name.

I have kept my daughters dolls and I had 1 of my dolls but that has been lost somewhere along the way in a house move I think. I do like dolls but I agree some are very scary.

I am very much a doll grown up,especially baby dolls. The thing is though,I did have lovely dolls as a child but preferred to be outside with my brothers. Funny how now I would love to have those dolls. I have collected and made a few. Yours are so lovely, especially their outfits and what lovely memories of your childhood. xx

Your dolls are so frilly and girly, Susan. Just beautiful.

Guess I mostly played with (and still love) baby dolls...

Do you have pictures of the playhouse your father built? What a dream that must have been!

Hi Susan ... I'm not a doll person. I can appreciate how beautiful some dolls are ...but I've never had any desire to collect them. I love looking at other people's dolls.... your dolls are very beautiful and I love the way you change their outfits to suit the season.....
Hugs and Blessings..

You have a beautiful collection of dolls. I have several china dolls that were my grandmothers and a doll that my Mom made her dress from my prom dress that sits out on the washstand.

Gorgeous dolls. My friend in Boise used to make dolls and she make the dresses and painted the faces. She had an entire glass hutch full of her dolls.

I LOVE dolls. One of my favorite dolls from adulthood is a Marie Osmond doll I purchased from QVC. I have a granddaughter who has very blonde hair but dark chocolate brown eyes. You never see a doll with this combination. My g'daughter's name is Tiffany. One day as I was flipping thru channels, I happened upon QVC and they had this blonde haired, brown eyed doll and her name was Tiffany. It was fate. I had to have her.

I also have my original Betsy McCall doll from childhood. I had three sisters and the year you were seven, for your birthday you got a little red metal suitcase, the Betsy McCall doll and the case was crammed full of doll patterns, bits of fabric, lace and trim. Then for the whole year you were seven, if you were in the sewing room with Mother, the other girls could not interrupt. You were getting sewing lessons. I still have the case, doll and patterns. What sweet memories.
