Glory-of-the-Snow

Life is full of all kinds of sweet surprises.

One recent afternoon, after the long, hard winter,  my car swung into our driveway.

There, before my very eyes, sticking up from gravel, were several darling lavender-bluish flowers.

"Where did those come from and how did they get into our driveway?"  I asked myself.

They were clearly not crocuses.

They were not snow drops.

What  the heck were they?

My niece's husband looked them up on his I-Pad (the world at your fingertips!)

Come to find out, they are called glory-of-the-snow.

The Color Blends website, http://www.colorblends.com/Specialty-Bulb/Glory-of-the-Snow,
described the little flowers this way:

"An early bloomer with starry, lavender-blue flowers that shade to white in the center. When massed, the plants look like a summer sky fallen to earth. Left undisturbed in sun or light shade, Glory-of-the-Snow often self-sows, eventually forming a dense carpet."

Isn't that the greatest description?  "A SUMMER SKY FALLEN TO THE GROUND." Beautiful!

Hubs even planted several of them on either side of the walkway!

It'd be great to have an entire lawn of these little beauties.

WHAT ARE THE EARLIEST FLOWERS TO BLOOM WHERE YOU LIVE?

Aren't they sweet! Wish we had some of those in our driveway. The earliest flowers in my garden are a couple hyacinths and then of course the much more reliable daffodils. They're my favorite because they bring me cheer earlier than anyone else. (well, any other flower.) :-)

Daffodils are the first to bloom here. We now have primrose in full bloom in our yard - what a beautiful array of color. We had been told that our spring would be cold because the ground froze so far down this past winter, and it has been cold. It rained all night last night, is raining now, but was 46 degrees when I got up this a.m. "We're having a heat wave..."

Hello from Spain: the camellias grow in my city. The climate favors growth. Also margaritas. Keep in touch

I just discovered Glory-of-the-snow also. What a beautiful little harbinger of spring... and you are right, what a poetic description of them. It really describes them as they are so so blue. There are not too many really blue flowers and this one is a delight.

I did google it also and read that they are particularly prolific after a very cold and snowy winter! There you go. Enjoy

Flowers bloom all year where I live..I love the jasmine bush in my front yard. The snow white blossoms smell heavenly. They come out in March.
