America the Beautiful

On this Independence Day, let's remember all the men and women who sacrificed their lives to keep America free.

To them, we owe honor and love.

It is usually a day of splendid celebrations.

Parades with marching bands that make the heart beat faster;  colored balloons that delight the kids; magnificent floats and choruses of "It's a Grand Old Flag"  and "Yankee Doodle Dandy" fill the air with merriment.

Then there are barbecues, swimming, and at night, the dark sky lights up with splashy fireworks in every color imaginable.

America, which is a great country, deserves to be celebrated.

Americans must remember, however, that freedom is not free and that Democracy cannot be taken for granted.

This is a country that was founded and settled by immigrants who were exactly like today's hard-working immigrants---people willing to make immense sacrifices for the good of their families.

They simply yearn for their children to have better lives, free from bloodshed, violence, and excruciating poverty.

They come to America with hearts filled with hope.

"America, America, God shed His grace on thee. And crown they good, with BROTHERHOOD, from sea to shining sea." (from the song, "America The Beautiful.")

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BELOVED AMERICA!

Hope your Fourth of July celebration was a fun one. Mine was great. The fireworks were wonderful and it was fabulous to be with family. I love the song America the Beautiful. We sang it in church last Saturday.

Sure is hard to celebrate with all the lunacy coming from the White House.
