A snow and ice storm, complete with freezing temps and heavy winds, has proven that we are in the heart of winter in western Massachusetts.
It has definitely been blustery.
This is the perfect weather for homemade beef stew.
Yesterday, I kept a pot of it going on the stove for several hours.Otherwise, the beef chunks are too tough for my liking.
I prefer them to be soft and fall apart when touched with a fork.
Also added were chopped onions, carrots, and celery that had first been softened in a little canola oil.
This time, some elbow macaroni was added, too.
Flour mixed with cold water provided the thickening for the stew.
Honestly, it turned out delicious, a perfect dish for a not-so-perfect weather day.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO COOK ON CHILLY DAYS?

Any kinda soup, any time of year, in any kinda weather. :)
It's been so long since I had beef stew. This looks delicious. The macaroni added is a nice touch. I love soups and stews on cold days. Sounds like you got a lot of snow too. And that red heart looks handmade. So cute.

I cook beef stew too. Made some last week . i also like to make beet soup on a winter day and when stuck in the house i like to bake a nice apple pie to spice up the smells and have for my dessert.
Oh Susan.....this looks so, so good. and it looks like you like black pepper...I LOVE black pepper and I probably overdo most of my dishes with the wonderful black specks of goodness. Lots of the Country is in the path of this current storm. Stay warm
Susan, I just sent you an e-mail to show you the antique plate that I bought today. I had a question about it, cause the colors were mixed in near the flowers, and I wondered if that was just part of the pate or what? But your e-mail came back to me, and said there was no e-mail at that address? hmmm. I know you were having trouble commenting, so maybe that has something to do with it.
