Graveyard at Old First Church in Bennington, Vermont, Fascinates

Graveyards or cemeteries are fascinating places to be.

From aging tombstones, one learns a lot about the people who once were and are no more.

The graveyard near Old First Church in Bennington, Vermont, where the bones of New England Poet Robert Frost lay, is peaceful and historical.

Other famous people are buried there, too.

On an autumn day, with fallen leaves crackling beneath our feet, we perused the hilly graveyard, straining to read epitaphs.

From the stone, below, we learned that the late William Ellery Channing died at sunset on Oct. 2 in 1842. 

Some are no longer legible but many still are.

It's a picturesque and peaceful place.

One can look over and see the hills as well as sun streaming through fluffy clouds.

 A visit here makes for  a totally awesome day trip.
