Growing up, my Mother frequently quoted Alfred Lord Tennyson when she'd remind us, "More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreamed of."
She also used to say, more times than I could even fathom, "Prayer moves mountains."
Mummy must have known that prayer was a simple pleasure. It's probably one of the greatest gifts she left to her children. (Thanks, Mummy.)
No matter how hard life becomes, prayer is the answer. If there is a problem that appears to be insurmountable, prayer can take care of it.
Sometimes, when overwhelmed by difficulty, I know what to do-- put the matter on the pillow, turn it over to Almighty God, and go to bed. By morning, the seemingly impossible problem has, miraculously, a solution.
Actually, it's not that miraculous. It's just that the act of praying puts the dilemma into the hands of the Creator, the greatest problem-solver of all. It's a lot better than trying to solve it in "human" terms.
At this busy, crazy, frenzied time of year, remember where you can find peace, solace, and joy--in the simple act of saying a quick, heartfelt prayer.
