Scenic Shots of the New England Countryside in Late Spring

Early last night, I had to do an errand that took me into the New England countryside.

It was right before sunset and I drove quickly because the house I was driving to is located deep in the woods.  Driving there alone in the dark would be kind of scary.

As my car whizzed along a main road, I kept getting glimpses of breathtaking vistas.  The surrounding countryside in this part of New England is absolutely stunning.

There are rolling hills in the background, green grass for what seems like miles, towering trees, fluffy clouds in the blue sky above, and quiet.

Finally, I drove onto the dirt road where my friend lives. Going past a pond at the bottom of the hill near her house, I stopped my car. The sight was too beautiful to not stop and observe.

The setting sun partially illuminated a tree to my left (photo at top of post).  Click, click. I couldn't stop taking photos, hoping to capture, at least in part, the intense beauty of the scene that made my heart beat fast.

After the visit, on the way back down the dirt road,  pinkish golden clouds in the sky reflected in the pond, creating a scene like a painting.  Once again, I stopped the car and took pictures. How could anything be that gorgeous? What gifts we have on earth when we have eyes to see and ears to hear!

No matter how heavy my heart may get over some detail of life, living in such a place as New England can always cheer me up.

Being surrounded by gifts of Mother Nature perks up the spirit and fills my heart with gratitude.

DO YOU ENJOY THE COUNTRYSIDE OR DO YOU PREFER BEING IN A CITY?

Just hopped over here from Becky Povich's blog. Beautiful photographs. My mom's family was New England-based, so I've spent a lot of time there. So verdant and peaceful. Your question re city vs. countryside leapt out at me, as I've answered that question in a blog I posted on Feb 3rd. I hope you'll read it. Here's the link:

Honestly, my first reaction to the question is I PREFER "countryside"....however, I ENJOY the city! How's that for diplomacy? The scene in KY wasn't really all that different from the pictures here....I'm surprised by the similarities. (I'm sure the differences exist, too....but this really reminded me of the countryside I was surrounded by at Gethsemani).

Susan - what a beautiful little trip you took us all on! Thank you for that! Hubby and I had the chance to visit for a long weekend there many years ago to attend a friend's wedding and being first timers there....we instantly fell in love with the scenery, the architecture, and the whole "feel" of that beautiful state. We stayed in Kennebunkport and guess who got to do a little vintage shopping and came home with an antique blanket chest? :) Anyway, we will go back someday and spend a lot more time along the coastline. It has made a permanent home in our hearts....You're so blessed to live there.

Oh, and thanks for visiting my blog, too! :)

Have a great day ~

What a lovely place your friend lives. If I never saw a city ever again, it wouldn't break my heart. I've never been to New England. It's stunning.

Hi Girls!

Went to a party for a friend's son tonight. He is now officially a lawyer! Whoo whoooo! Quite an achievement.

So glad you stopped by and commented on my photos. New England truly is a beautiful place.

Take care and please come back soon. Tomorrow? Always, Susan

I have been wanting to go to the northern part of New England for quite sometime. I think we may actually do it in the fall. City? No way. I'll take a cow and a buttermilk bisquit anyday over smog and crowd.

Susan,
The photo of the clouds reflected in the lake should be entered in a contest. It is striking.

What beautiful pictures of God's artwork! When I stop and look at nature around us... it reinforces my belief in our Lord. Your suggestion to me for a gratitude journal is great.. I use to do a Thankful Thursday... I don't know how I got away from it.. but I am going to return to it this week.
Have a blessed day~
Gwen:)
