For Dayle's Simple Pleasure Party: The Sweetest Cat on the Planet

Thinking over what to write for this week's simple pleasure, my little grandmother cat came to mind.

This dear, sweet animal is deeply entrenched in my heart. She came to our family as a baby. When we brought her home, she was a real tiny ball of honey-colored fur that fit in the palm of my hand, thus, the origin of her name,  Honey Cat.

She was born in the hot desert of Arizona and now lives in arctic tundra New England!  In the winter, she merely sticks her nose out of the door, backs up into the kitchen, and bolts like lightning up the stairs to the second floor. She's no fool. She keeps very warm, usually nestled in the most comfortable spot in the house, on top of the soft covers of my bed.

In her younger days, Honey Cat was quite the huntress.  Once, in Arizona, she even captured a twelve inch iguana (lizard) , brought her booty into the house, and dropped it, still alive, in the living room.  Talk about blood curdling screams that came from the mother of the house (me) when the iguana ducked for cover under our couch.  My daughter, brave girl that she was, got it out and set it free.

Honey Cat's health has been kind of failing. She picks at a special kidney diet food we buy directly from the veterinarian but her appetite is definitely off. She's losing quite a bit of weight and sleeps a lot, too.

"She's a very old cat," the veterinarian told me at the last visit.  If it's true that one year in human terms equals seven in cat years, Honey Cat would be more than 100 years old, since she was born about 15 years ago!

I love this little cat with all my being. Every day I have with her is special.  She's a perfect delight and loves to be scratched behind her ears.  She is a Number One simple pleasure.

                                                               THE END

That was a lovely story. Simple pleasures are actually very profound. We have the neighbour's cat who loves to dig in the soft soil where the new seedlings are!

Susan, this made me a little weepy. What a wonderful old cat you have. I've always been a dog person, but we had one very special cat back in the 80's. Tabitha was a sweetheart (after we helped her tame her wild tendencies; she came to us from who knows where). Our hearts broke the day we had to say goodbye. Since then we've had a dear collie, Princess, who made it to almost 13, and we now have a granddog, Diesel, who lives with us and has managed to steal our hearts, as well. I've already said, after this one goes, no more. They add so much to your life, but it's so hard to let them go. All the best with Honey Cat. What a special simple pleasure.

Your cat is a honey. My Rusty was too and he lived 17 and half years. My sister-in-law's cat lived to be twenty. Now that is longevity! Everyday with Honey Cat is a gift. Enjoy.

What a sweetie and so very dear to your heart! Pretty soft coloring as well. Amazing what a simple but deep love furry creatures fill our hearts with and what a special place they hold in our families. Honey-cat is beautiful!

Stories about pet animals and animals in general break my heart. They are family, wouldn't you agree? and are part of your life and your household. I've had pet friends my entire life, and the departure of each and every one of them has been harder than the toughest moments in human troubles. Lucas and Mateo have conquered my love and affection these days. Like Honey Cat, they came as babies; teeny, tiny babies. They will be two years next January, and I don't even want to consider what life would be without them. I love them to pieces and are, indeed, one of the BIGGEST yet simple pleasures of yours truly's life.
...getting emotional! :o(
have a lovely day!

Hi Susan, Honey Cat is beautiful. My orange outside kitty has disappeared. THis is day 4 and makes me very sad as he was so timid, couldn't meow beyond a tiny little squeak. I just don't know what happened to him. The other nite, hubby and I were walking and a baby kitten came running straight to me, following us for blocks. I spent the next 20 minutes trying to decide what to do with her. I knew I couldn't bring her home. Jingles would flip. And I couldn't keep her outside as she would cry and cry. So finally I took her back to where she had run out from and I prayed her mama would come to get her. We walked last nite and didn't see her. Just tears me up. Honey Cat and Jingles are very lucky kitties! Best wishes, Tammy

Aw....what a cutie..sorry to hear that age has taken a hold on her...she must have been extra sweet as a wee little thing too!

I think that all animals are a treasure and definitely a simple pleasure..they make us smile when we're sad, pick us up when down....listen to us rant and rave when upset...and cuddle us when we're not feeling well...

indeed a pleasure...
sweet post Susan!

Ohh, what a lovely cat with a lovely name. They certainly do become a part of our lives in a great way. Quite often it's only me and my cat at home, so she gets talked to a lot!

Oh Susan - I know so well the way those furbabies work their way into our hearts and steal them away! :) I have three older cats that I love with all my heart, as well as an old dog and a mid-age dog. I posted about them on November 2. They are my sunshine, my reason for living, and the loves of my life! Your little Honey Cat looks like such a sweetheart, and I'm so glad that she has you for a momma. :)

Love your post; my furry friend is a yellow Lab mutt we sometimes refer to as the "Therapy Dog." Like your Honey, it makes you feel good just to pet her.
