New Tea Cup for Martha and Terri's Tea Cup Tuesday!
A new tea cup has joined a collection around here and it has quite a story.
A dear friend of mine, who has been in my life for many decades, now lives cross-country from me. In her Christmas card, she wrote how she hoped I liked the gift she sent to me.
"I just knew you'd love the tea cup," she wrote.
The problem with her note is that I had not received a gift. Nothing. Nada. No tea cup or anything else had arrived at our house!
After the holidays, I called my friend and let her know neither the tea cup or the other gifts she mentioned had ever arrived. She was irate. She had purposely sent the gift on December 3 so I'd get it in time for the holidays.
My friend called UPS and was informed the package had, indeed, been delivered to a house on the street where we live! She had put the wrong house number on the package. The really perplexing thing is that UPS had a slip with my signature on it, indicating the box had been delivered. (oooooo, that made me really mad because it sure wasn't me who put my signature!)
One afternoon this month, I approached the owner of the house who has some tenants and explained the dilemma of the missing package. She said she'd talk with the tenants.
To make a long story short, one day last week the doorbell rang. The owner of the house down the street had a box in her hand that had been given to her by the male tenant. His wife apparently had signed for the box and put it in the laundry room on a shelf and forgot about it. That was last December 10th of 2010.
Actually, I had pretty much kissed that package goodbye so was perfectly delighted that it eventually got to me despite my pessimism over it ever showing up. Inside was the lovely cup shown in this post plus two books of quotations and some painted tin tree ornaments. I loved everything.
The tea cup, made in China, is covered with flowers primarily in varied shades of pink and blue. It's very dainy and pretty.
Best of all, I'm so happy to, for this week anyway, to participate once more in Martha and Terri's Tea Cup Tuesday.
See? Sometimes things do, indeed, come to a good end. God bless that landlady for tracking down the missing box.
As for my friend, I'd like to wish her a very belated "Merry Christmas" and thanks for the long lost giftie!
Now be sure to check out Martha's blog, Martha's Favorites, and Terri's blog, Artful Affirmations to see all the other tea cup submissions!
Have tea cup will travel. So glad it finally is yours to enjoy. Lovely pattern by the way.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you recovered your package. The story the hubby told you sounds plausible and points up what I believe and that is that most people are honest.
ReplyDeleteAnd the cup? Absolutely gorgeous! Your friend has exquisite taste...
Fat chance ANY box here would not be opened in 6 hours much less six weeks! How can anyone not want to know what is inside a delivered box??
ReplyDeleteThe tea cup is gorgeous. I am so glad you finally got it...just think of missing this one!
Dearest Susan,
ReplyDeleteLucky you indeed! Why can people be so sloppy to forget (???) about a parcel that they don't have a clue about to begin with.
But it worked out and it looks lovely. Enjoy the other gifts as well and it is so good for your dear friend too, knowing her spending and great care was not in vain!
Have a great week.
Mariette
oh Susan, that teacup is worth giving to you! it is so pretty with flowers on it! love the colours too! Glad finally you got it!.. thanks for sharing! have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, what a great ending to your story. It sounds as if your gift was in "safe keeping" for some reason. The cup and saucer are beautiful, and I'm glad that they finally made it into your own hands!

Hi Susan, You are right, the teacup is absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a story.
You have wonderful friends.
*hugs*
You were lucky that she checked up on it and that the 'tenants' gave it back. It was gorgeous.

That's quite a story. I have a cup of tea each and every morning but I have it in a big mug...I'm sure yours are just for decorative purpases...very pretty. I know you LOVE roses.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got your teacup! We had something delivered next door and they brought it over(the son opened it and never looked at the name on the box). We were glad it got to us! Lucky yours was found! hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteHi Susan: I am so glad you could join us. I just love the tea cup. You are right, that kind of a story usually does not have a happy ending. That cup was meant for you my friend. It is beautiful, like the owner! Hugs, Martha
ReplyDeleteThat pretty little teacup does have a story to tell! Why anyone would sign for a package under someone else's name and then stick it on a shelf to never think about again is beyond me. :/ Hope you are having a great day. Tammy
ReplyDeleteI like the colors on your new teacup. Very pretty and romantic!

What a story, and with a good ending too! I am so glad you finally did receive your cup. It is lovely with all those beautiful flowers on it, and the fact that it came as a loving gift from your friend is even better!
ReplyDeleteRecently I have been checking to make sure I am following when I visit for T.T. and I was surprised to see I was not on your list.(shock!) Sometimes I have thought I signed up before only to find out it didn't work. So, I signed up again today....yea!
Thank you so much for sharing with us today.
Hugs,
Terri
What an adventure your cup has had. It was probably beginning to feel neglected on that shelf in the laundry room.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had the courage to approach the lady of the house it was delivered to and that she was will to look for it.
As Mr Shakespear was so fond of saying "All's well that ends well.
Hugs,
Penny
