Just the other day in the kitchen, I wished for a mint plant.
“It’d be so nice to add a little chopped mint to this salad,” I said to myself.
My hubs, (God bless that man),went out to the backyard to see if he could find a little shoot of mint but alas, the ground was still frozen and covered with snow.
No mint.
So you can imagine how happy it made me to find a mint plant on an excursion to the supermarket. Tah dah! It cost only $1.99! Into the cart it went.
Once home, I put the square pot into a a little water-filled dish and gave “Minty” a nice drink. Then, up onto the kitchen windowsill she went.
It makes me happy to see anything green (including money, ha ha ) during the winter.
Now, if I want to chop a few leaves of mint and add them to a salad, all I have to do is reach up, snip, and chop!
I move "Minty" to the bathroom window to get full sun, then return her to the kitchen windowsill.
A tad of chopped mint adds a lot of zingy taste to a salad.
There's another green plant on the windowsill, too. Don't know what it is and we don't eat it but enjoy its greenery.
DO YOU GROW ANY FRESH HERBS IN YOUR KITCHEN?
I don't have luck with mint inside, but last summer I had huge chocolate mint and spearmint plants-until the heat got them that is.
ReplyDeleteI have the blackest thumb, but I do have outdoor flowers in spring/summer/fall.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any herbs growing but I think it's a really good idea. hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteWe usually have mint on our balcony during the winter. Sam and the kids would go out there and pluck some for their evening tea. Didn't get any this year. Maybe I need to head to the plant souk soon. :) Hope your day is great! Tammy
ReplyDeleteI grow all my herbs in the summer time. My little kitchen is just to small for planted herbs:( I bet the mint smells wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI want too! Anyhow it is good in tea too. Sandie
ReplyDeleteNo I do not have a green thumb at all..but I love mint with chocolate very much.
ReplyDeleteI usually grow basil and parsley in the spring/summer. There's nothing like fresh herbs in my tomato sauce. :)
