Presidents' Day
Every time I see the American flag waving in the wind, my eyes sting with tears.
It makes me think of how immensely grateful I am to both sets of grandparents for making their way to America.
Of their huge sacrifices to make a better life for all of their children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren.
Today is Presidents' day and we will be putting out our beloved flag.
I think of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and their contributions to this country.
When we were kids, we studied these presidents in our classroom.
It was intriguing to think of the first president of this great country and all he stood for.
And of Abe Lincoln as a youth, reading by candlelight or by the light from his fireplace.
He was from a poor background but became the President of the United States!
I don't know how many Americans really think of what this day means.
It's so much more than just a day off from work and school.
It's a day to be proud, to remember, and to give thanks for the incredible gift of freedom.

President's days when we were kids was an exciting holiday...the remembering of greatness. We cut out picutures of Lincoln and Washington, heard their stories, sand patriotic songs. In this election year...well, it is different....
I remember singing all of the patriotic songs in school, ballads from every branch of service. I loved it!
Happy President's day. The kids are off school. And we are going to the dermatologist! lol

I can’t even remember celebrating Presidents’ day at school or if we were out of school.
Great memory I have, huh?

Hmmm ... I don't remember ever celebrating President's Day growing up. Over here it is just a regular day, but we have a 4-day weekend coming up. :) Best wishes to you, Tammy
To be honest I didn't know it was Presidents Day..yikes! Now that I don't work I guess the days just blend into each other in many ways. When I was a kid this was a great day off from school. I loved learning about our presidents. Thanks for reminding me of this special day! Hugs, Linda
Happy Presidents Day! You have so many nice holidays over there ^_^ We have St Patrick's Day coming up here in March - everything goes crazy then but it's fun. Have a fantastic Day my friend!
Big hugs
Eva
I sang Yankee Doodle with the kids this week and last before school was out. Also played a game of "Who Chopped the Cherry Tree Down?" and then we did "Old Abe Lincoln" and "Dixie"..on the actual president's holiday I stayed home and slept in...YAY for holidays. Thank you Lincoln and Washington!
