Muscari

The first time I saw muscari (purple hyacinth), they made me catch my breath.

Their rich color is so intense.  Massed together, they make a marvelous sight in a flower garden.

The second time I saw them was at a flower show in Albany, New York.  This time they had been planted with tulips and the color combinations popped and sizzled.

A photograph below, also taken at last year's flower festival, became part of this blog's header.

As previously mentioned in this post,  I found bags of muscari bulbs in a Christmas Tree Shops and just about keeled over with happiness.

My hubs planted them late last fall in a round flower bed in our front yard.

The muscari have just started to come up as well as the tulips. A couple of the latter have bloomed.

Frost is predicted for Friday night so by the time you read this on Saturday, whether or not the frost zapped the muscari and tulips will have been revealed.

Pansies are supposed to be pretty hardy but, to tell you the truth, I'm also concerned about those little fellas. They could freeze their little petals off in the c-c-c-old temps.

Oh well, can't worry about something over which I have no control cuz that's a waste of time.

All we can do is hope for the best and keep on moving.

P.S. Saturday morning note:  Every flower survived the chilly night! Thanks be to God!

IS THE WEATHER CRAZY WHERE YOU LIVE?

Beautiful flowers, and yes the blue color is very intense. It's my favorite color...love most shades of blue.
The weather is weird every where these days I think, it's too cold for being April [almost May].
Have a lovely Saturday!

Beautiful flowers! Hopefully an overnight freeze won't do them in. Wishing you a warm and wonderful weekend. Tammy

What a delight to discover one of these plants, just one that blooms outside my door each spring. It makes me so happy to see it. I love it, and it has such a wonderful fragrance.

Lovely pictures,Susan. Yep, weather is crazy here...been a yoyo. Tornado watches out yesterday at family farm. We were blessed that the weather remained calm as we did last lap on auction prep. Weather is to reform tonight but after the sale!

Oh, yes, the weather is crazy here. Extremely mild winter with almost no snow. Back in early March it was so warm we were in t-shirts and shorts and yesterday it was cold windy and I wore a coat.

I love the grape Hyacinths and planted bulbs years and years ago. I have about 6 stragglers that the animals haven't eaten (yet).

Your photos are gorgeous!

Hi Susan,
I love Hyacinths...but I'm allergic to the fragrance, so I admire them in photos only.
I hope your plants survive the frost and cold.
God Bless

I finally planted some of those pretty little hyacinth last year. When the small cluster popped up ready to open its tower of little bell blossoms, the deer came and ate them all! (my neighbor feeds the deer and they play havoc on my large flower beds!) Hope our frost wasn't too devastating.

Here in Maine it was 33 this morning.
