Vintage Table Cloth
A very dear friend has been cleaning her house and getting rid of things she no longer uses, needs or wants.
She called me and said she had a large crocheted tablecloth that was at least 50 years old.
A friend of a friend had crocheted it, she said.
Would I be interested in it?
Would I? Of course! I love old things.
I drove to her house the next day to pick up the cloth.
My dear friend had carefully washed it, neatly folded it and had it waiting for me in a bag.
It looks quite lovely on the dining room table and the pattern is so pretty. Added to it is a vase of gladioli and one of my favorite paintings on a little easel.
It boggles the mind to think how long it took the woman to make the beautiful table cloth.
With a red or green cloth underneath it at holiday time, it will be even more charming.
I am so grateful to my friend and she's glad the crocheted antique cloth can be put to good use.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU RECEIVED A SURPRISE GIFT?
It's a beautiful! I can't recall the last time I received a surprise gift but if I received a beautiful tablecloth like your's it would be a real treasure. As a crocheter myself I know the hours and hours and hours of work in such a beautiful piece. It seems you know too. xx

ReplyDeleteSusan I am thinking about you today.
ReplyDeleteNow that tablecloth was such a wonderful gift and could not go to a person who would love it more - she must know you very very well!
Made with love and given to with love.
Well I won some surprises from you a couple months ago - love them!
What an absolutely beautiful tablecloth! It is definitely a treasure! I can't remember a surprise gift - except our children gave us an anniversary gift of a night away at Boone Tavern in Berea, KY! That was a surprise, and we are looking forward to going before too long.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, Susan!

i GOT SEASON TICKETS TO SHOWS ALL YEAR FROM A VERY DEAR FRIEND. SHE KNOWS I LOVE SHOWS ESPECIALLY WITH LIVE MUSIC! YOUR TABLECLOTH IS LOVELY.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...it looks like it was made for your table.Your friend is dear indeed.
ReplyDeleteStunning! I love the teacup collection in the background as well. :)
ReplyDeleteMy mother crocheted with thread years ago, but not on this scale. I know the work that goes into such an elaborate piece.
My Grandma made many tablecloths like this. Every now and then she would wash them and stretch them out to keep them from shrinking (I think).
ReplyDeleteI have one and keep it in a box in the closet. :) If she were here my Grandma would want me to just use it already, bur it is too precious!
Thanks! This brought back good memories. 'Tis that time of the year. :)
Part 2...
ReplyDeleteShe would put a thin sheet of plastic over the crocheted tablecloth. I don't know if that was just when the Grandkids came over (a smart move!) or all the time. Either way, it kept the tablecloths clean. I remember her chuckling about wiping down the table. :)
